RTS Thread
are there any RTS enjoyers on /v/ anymore? what RTS games have you been playing recently?
i've been enjoying some starship troopers: terran command (looking forward to the new dlc) and steel division 2.

Starcraft 2 is the answer to this question for the last 10 years.
Says enough for the state of the RTS genre

This is one of the best RTS i've ever played and i've been queueing nonstop for like two months.
I'm waiting on Dust Front RTS and i'm kinda hopeful for Sanctuary Shattered Sun. But even though I love TA/SupCom kind of games, I really wish somebody just took AoE2/4 and made it sci-fi kind of thing like Star Wars Battlegrounds.

RTS is the genre that will never die. They're all made to last.

Never ever ever neglect reclaim, all else being equal it will singlehandedly win you matches if you deny enemy reclaim and take it for yourself.
People ignore DTs and fortification walls but good placement of them can split up a T1 push for cheap.
Nano con turrets give the most build power per metal of anything, use them to furnish your base.
LLTs and mexes can self destruct to do large amounts of damage to anything near them, it can stop pushes if your enemy isn't using proper placement.
Self destructing denies reclaim.

This, new players don't grasp that killing and eating an enemy commander is an easy jump to T2. Eating metal from the enemy or feeding is what makes the game a knife fight and micro intensive

Do this opening
>3 Metal Extractors
>1Solar
>2Windmills
>Factory of choice
>1 or 3 Constructors
Start doing windmills with those while you push and cap with your commander. The Commander is the best frontliner, anything you build is to enforce his push towards the enemy line.

Also
>Bots are cheaper for the same damage output in paper, but more micro intensive
>Tanks are easier for newbies to defend and push, but you need to be smart with your expenses
If you kill an enemy commander eat him and you can jump to a T2 early

Have fun

I hate that RTT is so underrated, I don't get it, is it because it's unintuitive? You can't just A move blobs of units and certain aspects are very unintuitive for people who aren't at least a little interested in military tactics.
Compare Myth to any generic medieval RTS, your archers can hit your fighters on the back when they are mixed with enemy in melee, so now you need to consider positionng really hard and it can be frustrating.

It feels janky when you don't understand it's not a classic RTS but a mix of a 3rd person shooter with every soldier simulated as an RTS. The soldiers won't fire to what they cannot phisically see, no magic bullets. Once you understand it's more about positioning them for their advantage and looking itno the hill elevations and crevices and such, you're going to get insanely invested into it. And then the joy of controlling one in 3rd person or a tank and fucking shit up with your soldiers around is just fun.

GoH is really the wet dream of someone out there but it doesn't get the advertisement it could. I really think it is a bit of features overload and people just short circuit their brains while trying to grasp so much gameplay and so many options. But just have fun with the game, it's worth it.

mowas2 was alright, but i disliked the storage shit and how i felt like i needed to control every single guy since he'd do much better if i were aiming for him rather than letting them be retarded by themselves. i dont mind if i can control units more manually, but when it feels like im forced to or they just suck shit then i hate it.

Also i'm impressed that GoH manages to have tank warfare as cool and detailed as it is. I think it's on par or even better than games like War Thunder, a game about just tanks. And that's just a feature in the overall RTT gameplay.

I think RTS campaigns should be like puzzle games baked into the sandbox gameplay and they should not only narrate a story, but to teach people to play the game and then jump into MP. That being said, the best like that are the Age of Empires 2 campaigns. They're rich, fun and hard. I don't think there's another RTS that has done it as masterfully as that one.

It's not really like tank warfare, that one tries to be more of a simulator and is really janky.
Unit resuplying is a lot easier now, it can be automatized (there's still the inventory, but units get ammo from crates without you manually doing it).
The second point unfortunately is still there and is the thing I dislike the most about these games, I understand we are in the minority though, since one of the main appeals for most people is the direct control.

Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge.
Red Alert 3 was funny as well.
Red Alert - no idea I had it installed with all the expansions, but the units look really bad, but what's worse - the pathing is fucked up. You need to keep clicking and guiding your troops or they will fail when faced with any obstacle. So, unfortunately, I did not play through RA campaign and didn't see the cutscenes. But I hear you can see Kane acting as Stalin's advisor in one of the cutscenes.
It was hinted even back then that Kane is some supernatural, very long-lived being. He tanked an orbital cannon by GDI all by himself.
Yet, C&C 4 and on seem to imply he's some fucking alien and he needed Tiberium to spread as much as possible, so Scrin will notice that and invade for resources, while he uses their, basically, Stargate, to "Ascend". Whatever that means. To me, it sounds like "welp, Earth is fucked, it's ur problem nao peece tru powa rite haha well cya have fun fightin endless streams of alienz lol oh imma alien too I just forgot"

The higher the level of a link the more powerful unit (persona) of that arcana you can fuse. You gain additional units of a different type as you advance the campaign. Who's your enemy? You yorself for making gay decisions instead of maxing your links for max personer tech.
