Dropping your entire inventory on death (ala minecraft, 7 days to die or vintage story) is terrible game design
all it does is make you scared of exploring out of fear of losing your gear, you never go out with the good gear especially when you consider dying in lava in places like the nether
the death penalty should be more akin to terraria, dropping currency

Every "hardcore" /v/tard after playing Tarkov for an hour:
>HERE'S WHY DIFFICULTY IS BAD ACTUALLY

Why does there need to be ANY penalty on death aside from not progressing?
Look at Xenoblade. It handles dying rather elegantly while encouraging players to take risks, take on monsters larger than them and explore areas they aren't quite ready for.

No I just hate losing my inventory on death, this is especially painful in vintage story which can actually soft lock you and force you to search for copper again

It makes perfect sense in some games
In Minecraft, for example, your inventory is the main thing you're after, since your character never progresses in state, XP matters little, the world is vast and the only thing that matters is what you have, yeah I'd say it's a fine punishment
It makes less sense in games where that's not the case, but here it's ideal, it also incentivizes you not to worry about it so much or be so attached to where you are

yeah but vanilla minecraft has no map which makes exploration scary even with a compass since you can forget where your home is

>Vanilla Minecraft has no map
Huh? Yes it does?
Or do you mean older versions
Either way, there's ways to save your home and you respawn to it anyway when you die, it has nothing to do with inventory loss
I'd say it's fine, Minecraft is about exploring the world and building in it not sitting in one room with your 4 diamonds and being scared to go out and do anything further

I haven't played minecraft in over 5 years
there is a minimap now? can you mark your house?
>respawn
yeah thats the point, without a map if I respawn and I forgot the way I lost everything

Just a map item, but it's the same map, you lose it, you pick up another map and see the same thing

Also, either get good at navigating your world or don't worry about it, it's just stuff, it's all about getting more, you'll fall a few times and eventually learn your way around and/or get so rich it doesn't matter, that's the goal

It works pretty well now, and it helps having it on a wall in your house to always reference

The entire point of Minecraft is to map out and build the things you need to survive yourself.
If you can’t remember where your home is, it’s up to you to make landmarks or something to aid yourself.
Even survival games with buildings and towns and stuff won’t have mini maps or static maps.

i never considered you and the other anons arguments 2bh and now i kind of see it
what about vintage story? or 7 days? in vintage story you have to explore absurd distance that can make you lose stuff ewsily

All difficulty in gaming is artificial, and a lie. Any game that exists can be made "difficult". It just demands some level of creativity and engagement on part of the player

7days lets you turn it off thougheverbeitn't
and after some time becomes so easy that one life is the only fun way to play anyway
difference is, is the death penalty something you deal with constantly, something that keeps you on your toes, or something you are starting to forget exists at all
Obamanonymous No.720033396 [Report]
Uh, yeah like the entire point of Terraria was
>What if minecrap but actual good game design
And the first thing they dropped was dropping all of your shit.
Second thing was tool durability.
Obamanonymous No.720033603 [Report]
Like it's been fucking 16 years, twice the age of the average minecraft player and it's still more like loading up an empty Garrysmod server with all the games to import disabled and pretending it's game in and of itself.
