Japan success in the mid-late 20th century was thanks to investment by America, especially at the start of the Korean war where we resuscitated their manufacturing prowess in order to provide weaponry for the Korean War (logistics rather than shipping it across the Pacific). After that, we saw the need to keep the country afloat through continious investments as we feared any encroachment by communist infiltrators. But as time went on and other Asian countries also became industrial and wealthy like Taiwan and South Korea, along with Japan's lack of technological prowess in the digital age and their local Luddite mindset (still using fax machines), so to did Japan's commercial empire.
