I just unlocked the charge strike and I'm really disappointed. Using it with Hunter it strikes twice and the intent I imagine is to build two hits towards getting focus but it doesn't build at all.
Everything just feels difficult and awkward. With how much they refused to communicate during development and how they completely fucked the launch by wanting to be cute and now allow preorders I can imagine post-release support is just gonna be radio silence followed by a single patch every other month at best.

The only reason I don't use this mod it's because I'm fine with some attacks doing double damage (that being, very big enemies and SOME, only some, boss attacks)

There is no right for spikes and pussy enemies having 2 hit damage.

Just concentrate on not getting hit rather than having damage coomer brain.

-She will never dash forwards into you, unless you both dash forwards at the same time.
-Stay within attack reach of her. Only one of her attacks needs a fast reaction. If she winds up for the spin, dash out, waitz and dash back in.
-If she jumps, dash under the landing and stay close.
-If she throws the bell, let it go over your head and prepare to jump the return.

That's literally it for phase one.

Phase 2 is almost the same except you've got to move between the flames on the spin and jump over her rush attack. Your main damage opening is after her buttstomp. Jump the shockwaves and wail.

The long and short of it is stay close and react.

"Awkward" is the best word i can use to describe the combat system, especially the parts that have been very good and well thought out in 1 like magic and nail arts. Both of those aspects are significantly worse and for some inane reason you cannot even use 3 spells and 3 charged attacks like before but the game still wastes one of the buttons for a dedicated map button.
Fans will unironically fix it, i expect crest swapping mod within a month and it will make the game significantly more fun to play.

The difficulty balance in this game is some hot garbage. Hunter's March is kaizo-level, while the rest of the game is smooth sailing.
I've played up to the Slab now (so around ten areas completed) and still nothing compares to Hunter's March even remotely which is like the third area of the game.
Also every crest is a downgrade from Hunter's Crest.

No, there is no reason why the splinter summons deal 2 damage. Or the stick bugs dealing 2 damage. Or the fake white flowers deal 2 damage. Or the normal bugs dealing 2 damage. Or for any flying bug at all dealing 2 damage. On top of that they are tanky as fuck. OR THE FUCKING HAZARD SPIKES DEALING 2 DAMAGE.

Take into account that healing is more difficult and invincibility frames are shorter, so you don't get only punished by double damage alone.

If you've beaten Spinster Sister(or whatever her name is) and got the wall jump that's all you need. Just jump on the wall when she does the big floor move and heal in mid air and she isn't too much trouble. Most crests are useless, they can only be changed at benches, and upgrades only apply to one crest (discouraging experimentation). And subweapons are more just mindless spamming on bosses or flying enemies instead of being a core part of your moveset, mostly since up/down + R1 is super awkward to use fluidly in the heat of battle, so you just spam it wildly to burst

It could be a lot better, but I'm still having fun, it just doesn't have a lot of player expression and it doesn't feel like a metroidvania because there is very little power gain.

It feels more like a challenging action platformer that is more about fundamentals.

I take it back, the beast crest is amazing. Equip the Barbed Braclet, and Weighted Belt, and use the Flea Brew and Flintslate. It will keep you basically permanently in lifesteal mode as long as you keep playing agressively and you will shit out insane amounts of damage.
