Doom is not just gameplay. It is fun because they have well crafted enemy and pickup placement with good level design and secrets. There is none of that in open world game with level scaled enemies and an excess of resources
but if you want to just turn your brain off and click on people, go for it

I like the game quite a bit. Just wish it was an RPG and that melee builds didn't feel like shit to play.

Because CD promised a deep RPG with branching paths and impactful choices and gave a very good open world FPS.
I hope Cyberpunk 2 has more RPG elements, but it makes sense why people would hate this game
