>Pokemon was originally supposed to end with Ash as an old dying man and the entire pokemon world having been his embellished childhood memories
Do you think they could have possibly continued the game series if the original concept had been allowed to go ahead? It feels like Nintendo must have stepped in at the last minute to prevent it and save the brand.

What do you think the franchise would be like now if that had happened as intended?

it would have been cool if it ended at the peak of the series, gen 2.

but nintendo, being the greedy whores they are, knew it would be their cash cow they had to milk

there are MANY series (games, shows, etc) that would have had a significantly larger cult following and legacy if they ended way earlier

I think it's a huge missed opportunity for there to be a new protag in each generation of the anime, and they all still start with Pikachu but it's a different method of acquiring and a different temperament Pikachu each time. Like an asshole one, a funny one, etc.
Not that people need an excuse to own a dozen Pikachu plushies or something but it would have made Pikachu himself even more marketable.

Do you know what your mother thinks while you're playing outside or you're playing video games?
This is true. A lot of them are thinking β€œdammit”. And it's not because you're spending your time playing instead of studying. It's because they want to play too, but can't.
When you spend your allowance on a video game they're thinking β€œlucky brat”. Because with the money you spend they can no longer buy new shoes or clothes for themselves.
While they're making your dinner they're thinking β€œI don't wanna do this”. They would honestly rather go out to a restaurant and have some fancy master chef make them a feast. And at a restaurant, there's no need to clean up the table afterwards.
Every day your mother thinks β€œdammit”, β€œlucky brat” and β€œI don't wanna do this”, while doing the jobs a mother has to do.
The jobs a mother has to do include raising you, making sure you attend school, it's hard work.
It may be interesting to observe your mother with her viewpoint in mind.

It became a massive multi-media franchise that appeals to small children. Aside from wanting to stay on the track that got them rich, the franchise is constantly under a microscope from media watch dogs. They have to make everything as sanitary as possible to keep their good standing. This is why pokeballs are canonically mini-hotels, the PC box is a portal to a vacation resort, the battles are just harmless play fighting, and that the pokemon *want* to be caught and are testing the strength of the trainer by trying to escape. They put in a lot of work making sure nobody can misunderstand pokemon training as something abusive or dangerous.

in game mechanics they are, but even in sword and shield it's said that zacian and zamazenta are brother and sister despite being genderless. The genderless thing was probably only added to establish the fact that legendaries can't breed. Even though some legendary pokemon do have genders, they can't breed anyway. Hell, Heatran and Terapagos can technically be either gender although the terapagos you catch is always guaranteed to be male, the game code says it can be either

They would've been based on the same information, there is absolutely nothing to suggest the Pokemon Special manga was based on secret beta information, they just turned those characters into villains because that was effectively their role as the game's bosses and shonen mangas tend to be much more about a character working their way through a bunch of increasingly powerful members of an evil organization compared to the pokemon anime which has much more in common with sports anime tropes.

It would be saved and go down as one of the most important piece of Japanese media that took the world by storm.
Instead, much of that good will was squandered with subsequent generations, each being more and more lazy mechanically. It's truly exemplifying the thinking of corporate suits, not just in Japan.
Once Pokemon struck a gold mine, Game Freak tested the waters with Gen 2, only to find out people are content with doing the same thing over and over again, just renamed. This meant they had no reason to truly develop the games mechanically, it's all Gen 1 without the soul, but with a new coat of paint and less cool bugs. The original Pokedex already had a quite large number of Pokemon, expanding it with each Gen was bound to have the franchise end up in mental retardation/extreme autism territory with the power creep. It would STILL not be an issue, if each Gen introduced new Pokes, but not hundreds of them, many of which, like the floating keychain, a suspension bridge, and, worst of all, waifubait humanoid Pokemon obviously introduced to keep the older (older than 5 yo) satisfied and kept spending money.
I can't say much about the anime as I only watched the original and even it started running into problems, like - after a hundred episodes you could basically elucidate what it's going to be about. There were only a few eps, which became notorious on their own. For example, there would be nothing wrong with the Porygon episode if the fuckers at the studio, instead of drawing a normal explosion the heroes were getting out from, they replaced the background with very quickly changing, solid background colors. I have no idea how NOBODY, not in the studio, nor in the TV Station, looked at this and said: "Yeah, this is fine". It was an obvious seizure bait and sure enough it worked. Porygon therefore became another Pokemon "foreverially" benched just because the creators were afraid the sight of him will cause PTSD in the seizure kids or something.

Planet of the Pokemon.

Plot: Ash is the only human spared by the insurrection leader, Pikachu and put to sleep inside of a Pokeball remade to house a human, not Pokemon, and hidden away so that other Pokemon that he leads, do not know of him saving a single one.
Ash wakes up to a different world once many decades, maybe hundreds, of years have passed and his Pokeprison broke down, releasing him. He is still his age in the anime, desperately trying to find Pikachu and his companions of old. But what he truly finds... A world where cities and villages are no more. The planet became a one, huge place with different biomes for pokeymen to live. Yes, Pokeymen. Apparently, some of the Pokemon became as sentient as people, if not more so, gaining ability to use tools, but their cultures are hidden from sight, as they're afraid the cold, mass murderer and de facto dictator of the World, only known as Pol-Chu (alternatively Pika-Pot), would find them way too big of a potential problem and destroy what they built for so many years, salvaging what they could from technology left over by humans.
Can Ash find those elusive Pokemen and gather them under a single banner to topple the tyrant?
Or perhaps, Pika-Pol can still be brought back to reason after he sees Ash?
What else has changed in the world, how much time has passed when he was imprisoned in stasis?
Will he succeed in finding allies to his cause? Perhaps there are some other humans left in Humanballs waiting to be freed?
All this and more... In the new Pokemon movie "Ash and the Planet of the Pokemon"!

>All these people crying about Shudo being crazy
The man had his issues, but you better believe his vision in the anime and the general open-ground of Gen I made this series a lot more grounded and realistic. Like the monsters you're catching can kill you if you're not careful. Even the games start off with you being stopped because it's dangerous to go in the tall grass without a Pokemon, specifically because they were wild animals, bigger than the average rat and bird respectively.

The first episode of the anime involves Ash almost getting killed by a flock of Spearow. Even Ash's first design shows an uneasy kid trying to prove he's worthy of being a trainer, and at least in Gen I, he gets floored when he actually had to be a trainer instead of doing a good deed for a badge.

I mean in fairness, there's absolutely no fucking way the latter ending would have been greenlit ever. At the end of the day, this is a merchandise-driven show designed to sell a product. Shudo didn't exactly hide the fact that he wasn't really into the whole idea of Pokemon training and battling. The ultimate message of such concepts being fundamentally bad is completely and utterly counterproductive to, you know, wanting to sell games about training and battling Pokemon. You're basically telling kids that they should be ashamed of liking these games.

When you fully know your client base, you can minmax profit vs work .As for the anime, it lost all remnants of its soul after the team moved to digital production fully and now episodes can be shat out quickly and cheaply. The execs still believe their fundamental customers are little kids using their allowance or nagging their parents to buy them Nintendo shit, preferably a Switch as well, so the kid will shut up while parents (single moms) pat themselves on the back for "parenting is hard".
I'm sure they're aware of the unfortunate adults that keep playing every game entry, some even watch the anime as well. For the "successful men that made it in the company", you guys are seen as retards, because they sincerely can't understand why would an adult keep playing games and watching anime catered towards little kids, but they're businessmen first and foremost, so expect them to include new ways to keep you hooked, pay as much as possible for the minimum of work possible.
It's not wrong to like/play/watch Pokemon even if you're 80. There are only a few things to understand and ones you need to remember every time you think about spending money on their stuff:
-The games will never improve as long as idiots keep shelling out cash for every title and it selling in the millions
-You should take a break and think if happiness for you is being an eternal slave to a single company, taking whatever they offer, regardless of quality
-Some of you suffer from "Chasing the Dragon" syndrome. Just like with drugs, you can never relive the exact thing ever again, as part of growing up, turns a kind of a switch (you guys call it "the year everything started going to shit"). The brain matures as the last organ, often until 30. The transition from the "kid vision of the world" to "adult vision of the world" takes place as this process continues. You then start noticing and thinking about stuff you previously didn't really care about.

On the contrary, in the games, even having one badge shows that you're a pretty good trainer. Almost no one does the whole League challenge. That's a massive commitment that not everyone really wants to do. In the games, most humans are trainers, partially out of necessity since having Pokemon is considered to be advantageous just for everyday life. Plus, most people, even if they're not really registered trainers, still just live with Pokemon as pets or family members.

They're fully capable of improvement if profit was on the line.
The problem is - try to think like a businessman. You keep selling games and merch for your long-time successful franchise and every time you're successful and rake in hundreds of millions (if not billions). Why would you take a massive risk and change anything in the current model when it's working very well? There's this saying - "Better is the enemy of Good". Game Freak saw Sqeenix do exactly that - changing the formula that simply worked great in order to take a huge risk, chasing a wider audience - in the process, essentially losing the people that supported them up to that point, the people that made them into a giant corporation. Companies of all kinds are extremely risk-averse these days, therefore you see the rise of Remakes, mass adoption of a single engine for all types of games, mistaken belief into "great graphics and intense marketing (see Silksong) sell the games!" - but this belief is held by the boomer and late Millennial shareholders. It's the reason why a small game made by a few, dedicated guys can be a masterpiece selling far better than any AAA title. Corporations that make games are most often led by people out of touch with gaming, to them it's just another job and it's better to play safe to keep the shareholders happy (so they keep getting funding). I must say that Nintendo differs in a single thing - the people at the top were once low level nerds too, it's much easier to them to understand and predict the market's expectations.

I mean, blue and red background colors rapidly blinking was supposed to mean an explosion? This almost sounds like a sentient choice. I don't believe there was not a single person among the animators and the TV Station guys that looked at this and realized it's going to shake up a number of watchers, not because of the plot, though.

In the games, Pokemon shrink down into the ball, hence the name "pocket monsters". The beam of light stuff was something the anime came up with. The storage system seems to be a carryover from early in development when capsules were used instead of pokeballs. It's why you find various items inside pokeballs throughout the game too, because they were simply capsules/containers at one point.

Another fun tidbit, NoA tried to localize Pokemon with redesigns, which included turning Pikachu into a tiger catgirl with huge breasts.

Fun fact, because Porygon-Z was never in the anime, it never had an anime voice. PokePark on the Wii used the anime voices, and Porygon-Z was a character in that game, so they had to come up with a brand new voice for it.

Mate, Lugia was fujoshi bait from the beginning. Huge fucking yaoi hands, very likely sports a retractable, massive dong and hunter eyes. It sounds like you're inventing headcanon to believe "Lugia is ackstually a female!" because you wanked to that thing so many times and now, you feel gay (and rightly so).
Remember, that trannies use the same line of reasoning "Mark was always female! She's just got wrong sex assigned to her!".
Besides, lets be real. You think a man this age drinks himself to oblivion because his design got misgendered? Or because alcoholism is a plague in Japan and the dude was drinking for years (High-functioning alcoholic) due to problems that he had which were unrelated to Pokemon? Overworking, too little sleep, oppressive work culture that means Neo-Feudalism in essence, issues with wife/divorce or the lack of a romantic partner, lack of children or time for them. Being depressed for years, taking various "antidepressants" that shrinks give you but then you down them with booze. There's more possible issues, but these, I believe, are far more likely than becoming suicidal over the kind of gonads your fictional creature has. Or, for some, becoming suicidal over gonads they were born with. See the similarities?

I think someone's idea of Pokemon was very different depending on if they started with the games or the show. If you start with the show, which is about friendship in the wilderness, and then you go play the games and see what a generic jrpg it is, it's a pretty jarring experience. They made two conflicting premises for Pokemon, both of them took off, and they've been trying to contrive a way for them to get along ever since.

To be fair, wasn't entirely Carmack or Romero's fault.
Romero felt he could replace id entirely because a senior Programmer to him was just a code monkey with a fancy title, but forgot Carmack is the only one talented enough to bring his crazy ideas to life.
Carmack felt he could replace Romero entirely because story in video games is like story in porn, which led to him making a bunch of arena shooters and Doom 3 which was considered tame even for games of that era.

They needed each other. The ultimate dream team ruined because of superstar coding.

Liko and Roy are goddamn fantastic and would be considered good protagonists even in shows that aren't serialized toy commercials. What makes them stand out isn't the characters themselves but all of the support characters they have as friends who they mesh really well with. Ash's companions were add-ons who barely interacted with him by comparison.

Few people realize it because they just associate pokemon with Ash and when he left, the show basically ended. I think they tanked the show's ratings but who cares, it's better off this way.

No. You've got it backwards. The Pokemon Company was the joint-creation of Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures designed to manage the Pokemon brand, merchandise and licensing. This means that Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures are the bosses of TPC. Additionally, Nintendo actually owns a lot of the trademarks associated with Pokemon as well.

Incidentally, Warpsar, Inc. is a similar such venture jointly created and owned by Nintendo and HAL Laboratory for managing the Kirby license. No one in their right minds would claim that Warpstar owns Kirby, especially considering that it was formed in 2001, a whole nine years after the launch of Kirby's Dreamland. In that same fashion, The Pokemon Company was formed in 1998, two years after the launch of Pokemon Red and Green. There is no possible way in hell that Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures would jointly form a company and then just give that company complete independence and full ownership of the Pokemon brand.
