Because arcades. Arcades were the only way browns and blacks could play video games and in Japan arcades were simply popular place to spend time after school and shit. White countries were able to afford home consoles and poorer white countries or as polfags would say also non white like eastern eu had internet cafes and cheap PCs so they love Counter Strike. In asia you have Koreans that had Starcraft installed on all PCs in their cafes.

Fighting game events got TOO welcoming.
Now it's just another convention with slightly more emphasis on gaming. I understand you want SOME vendors and shit but too many fighting game majors feel like cons with their own cosplay contests and other shit.
These aren't inherently bad but I miss when playing fighting games was the primary appeal to these things. People who played them were the ones who cared, not jimminy fuckwit who's just there to go 0-2 and just drink in the vibes.
