I'm interested in final fantasy tactics, should I emulatre the ps1 version or wait for the remake to come out so I can pirate it and play the classic version with the other translation, im a big shakespeare head if that makes any difference

Play the original first. If you like it enough to replay it, try the PSP one. The remake so far isn't really offering anything those two don't provide.

The new version has a lot QoL and some changes along with some cut jp content in the form of choose your own adventure books. EN PS1 has a rushed translation so its quality is inconsistent.

WotL is the shakespeare version which is the translation that will be used in the classic version that is include with the new game.

It has denuvo so piracy might take a while. Emulate the Ps1 version with the translation of your choice and QoL like random encounters via mods.
PSP version has lag and sound effect issues.

You can get it for fair market price, along with a ps1 and a crt and play it like it's meant to be played. Old game, used ot be on the classics store of playstation store.

I loved the PSX version as a kid, did not like the PSP version, and am looking forward to this new version.
It adds stuff that was original JP-release only.

Honestly, it doesn't matter TOO awful much which version you play. Just be aware that the PSP version does some story changes that are kind of weird.

The newer version isn't using the PSX translation. It's a new translation based on Matsuno's revised script for spoken dialogue.

Unless playing the Classic version in the new release, which will use the PSP translation.

Either play wotl or play the FFHactics version on a PS1 emulator to your own specifications. I recommend hactics with an extended job system with fair prerequisites to get generic units capable of becoming holy knights or temple knights, etc. I have little hope for the remake to actually localize it well and keep the nuance of conversations in the original localization and the fact they won't keep wotl jobs like dark knight and onion knight just made me ask "what's the fucking point in buying a product with content removed?"

I've read the script comparisons for the original localization and matsunos in the agrias scene where she declares herself a limberry knight at that castle gate, nuance was lost in his translation. I'm not very happy with it in general. There are other examples of this.

That scene is one of two scenes that the PSX version mangled to hell though. I prefer that version anyway but I'll admit that was one of its bigger fuck ups, with the "St. Konoe Knights" line.

Matsuno doesn't translate. He's the original script rider or the original game and the newest version.
The translation is based on his new script.
New script looked fine from everything I saw, and I haven't seen any loss of nuance. If you want to share, would be interesting to see those changes though.

There is multiple romhacks porting PSP translation and/or features to the PS1 version due to the PSP version also being a bad port. Personally I use Prime v5 which turns back the balance to the Japanese release (as the PSP version did) and adds some menu shortcuts but generally doesn't fuck with things very much other than the script port.

I don't love some things about the WotL script but people way oversimplify the difference between them when the real issue with PS1 is that it had like 5 translators with no QC so some parts are perfectly good straight translations of what the Japanese script had which I like, while other parts are basic parsing errors and complete nonsense, and those will all overlap each other because one guy did the chapter title, one guy did the dialogue, and one guy did the item names in the same scene. PS1 also has plain weird shit for anyone that played Final Fantasy after 1997 that nostalgia fags jerk off to like calling White Mage "Priest" and the crap ass numbered spells.

Want to know the most beautiful irony of FFT translation? The guy who did the original PS1 translation wanted to do the whole olden Elizabethan English thing, but then found it was too convoluted and so simplified it for the release.
Fast forward to the PSP version, and the translators wanted to do the same thing and actually went through with it. The results speak for themselves.

Chocobo GP was ass on release since it was full price and had a battle pass. They updated it so all the battle pass content is now in the game. The game itself is kinda ass. The items are much more powerful than in Mario Kart and each racer has an ultimate that ranges from garbage to god tier. Overall it's a jank Mario Kart but with Final Fantasy characters. The PS1 version was better imo from what little I've played of it.

Monetize the hell out of a mid-tier kart racer with Chocobo skin and then act like they're doing us a favor by removing the gacha trash later on.
