If you're running around doing clues or something it's pretty unlikely you'll run into anyone who wants to kill you, PKers mostly stick to hotspots and hop through worlds until they find someone.
Crazy Archeologist isn't a money printer boss so people probably aren't camping it, but you could run into someone running to/from the Chaos Altar or just some dickhead out to harass ironmen doing the boss.
Whenever you're doing anything in the Wilderness the rule is to just not risk anything you don't want to lose/can't easily replace. Check the "items lost on death" screen on your equipment menu before you go out, it will tell you exactly what happens to your items and equipment if you get PK'd. You take your three best options and everything else is cheap and replaceable.
At Crazy Archeologist, ideally you'd have a teleport ready to click as soon as you see a PKer. But it's just above Level 20 Wilderness, so you'd need to either do MM2 for Royal Seed Pods, have dragonstone jewelry teleports (Ring of Wealth?) or Slayer Rings. Otherwise you have to run south through the ruins before you can teleport out, which makes it more dangerous. Also, make sure you don't bring and risk your whole stack of runes, just bring enough for a few kills per trip.
If you want to get more comfortable in the Wilderness and get some supplies first, you should do the Medium Wilderness Diary and practice by killing Zombie Pirates at the Chaos Temple. They have an absolutely fucking stupid drop table and you can easily get 200k+ in alchs and Blighted supplies in ten minutes with just a Dragon scimitar and strength ammy. You're also likely to see a PKer every few minutes and you're permanently teleblocked by the Chaos druids while you're there, but it's only in Level ~10 Wilderness so the lesson is to stay alert and manage your risk (only bring the supplies you need and don't get greedy, leave and bank your loot) and be prepared to run/survive until you can reach the ditch and escape.
