Nigga, nah. I started boxing my starters pretty quick, probably gen 2. I always hated that 1/3rd of all players shared the same starter as me and that everyone had that option to pick them, it felt super impersonal. It wasn't that much longer after that that I realized that Pokemon games are made a lot easier by the starters being pretty OP compared to all the early route stuff too, and that further cemented my distaste for starters.
The Pokemon games just feel more "right" when you're scrounging around for the route 1 shitmons and struggling to level them up, and NOT one-shotting everything for the first few gyms like you usually do.
Nowadays the only times I keep a starter is if I pick a gen with a waifumon and reset until I get a female, and even then I feel kinda dirty.

Earliest Fire type is... Growlithe/Vulpix, and that's like badge 4, I think?
Earliest Water type is Magikarp, probably, the one from the salesman, who's useless for a long time anyway. I'm too fucked, I can't think of who the first Water type would be after Magikarp.
Grass, most are pretty early I think.
