Such a high profile game being trapped on the PS3 suggests to me that its code is absolutely fucked and way too hardware specific. Then again, Kojimbo was forced out before the PS3 was totally dead, so there was never a person to really champion a port as necessary.

All these costs on top of the porting budget. At that point a remake is 100% going to be cheaper to do.
Anonymous No.720093583 [Report] >>720093782 >>720093873 >>720094815
2 is really tightly built around its limitations, it's an arcadey overhead game and fits that to a tee. every environment is a compact stealth maze built around limited enemy line of sight. there's not alot in the way of obvious improvements that could be made without entirely turning it into something else. ironically mgs3's quasi modern stealth gameplay makes a lot more sense because you can insert mgsv or whatever without completely savaging the original design.

>Split Plant chapter into two campaigns, Solid Snake and Raiden

Didn't substance rerelease have "snake tales" where you play through the events as snake? It was really half assed though and had no cutscenes. But having a fully fledged snake campaign in the game is literally the best idea you can have for MGS2. Doesn't he fight fortune off screen? I guess it would be hard to come up with more boss fights though

You could just pepper in Snake/Otacon segments in there not necessarily a full fledged game like Raiden. Although I’m sure you could have him fight Vamp and it’s cool. You fly the chopper while your friend plays raiden down below, kek would be kinda sick

Every early PS2 game was treated with amazement. The PS2 and Dreamcast era was incredibly hype. The footage of Sonic Adventure blew our minds, the footage of GTA3 and FFX being massive upgrades blew our minds. And MGS2 looking so insane made Zone of the Enders a top seller just because we were willing to pay full price for that demo.

We'll never get a jump like that again. It was a special time seeing all the PS1 greats evolve into these amazing spectacles.

Snake should fight Oldboy and Chinaman in his version of the Plant chapter. Those bosses would be much more interesting than fighting 3 versions of Vamp.

Btw splitting Plant into Raiden/Snake could fix the problem of MGS2 being too short for a full priced remake. They could treat it like RE2 remake with the separate campaigns and squeeze out a ton of replayability.

Solidus just gets disrespected in MGS2 and MGS4. His whole masterplan in 2 is revealed to just be pretend as Ocelot laughs at him, and MGS4 he's just a Big Boss decoy that gets burned alive and used for parts for the real Big Boss

Liquid meanwhile appears in every numbered game except for 3 (yeah I know he's a fake in 4 but come on it's still Liquid) and always gets treated with respect.

It was awesome. Being captivated by visuals back then was really really easy, it just looked fucking crazy, the jump in visuals from the late 90s to the early 2000s was something I'll never forget, even if graphics aren't everything. It wasn't until the mid 2000s I even knew about the hate Raiden got. My brother, cousins and myself didn't really care that much that Raiden's part was longer, we would just replay the Tanker chapter mostly, and would say Raiden was gay or faggy or whatever in a sort of throwaway way. We still loved it, and there was new shit around every corner back then to even give a shit about the "Bait and Switch". Hell we had Halo and Luigi's Mansion to play I think around the same time. MGS3 was out 3 years later so if we wanted more Snake we got him super quick. It's insane to think there was only a 6 year gap between MGS1 to MGS3

>Lower resolution texture for Snake's face, with a noticable degrade in his beard texture
>No laser sight from aiming the M9A1
>Colonel AI had MGS1/Ghost Babel sprites during the Arsenal Gear calls were removed
>Shaver was no longer obtainable in any difficulty except for Hard, and it didn't affect Snake's appearance in anything but the codec calls (it's normally meant to remove his beard in the cutscenes as well)
>Coolant no longer fogs up mirrors
>Reduced rain effects during the Tanker chapter
>Metal Gear Ray textures are fucked up and don't show the serial numbers
>Metal floors no longer make the correct sound when walking over them
>No more blood stains when you shoot the limbs on enemies

A lot of these problems originate from the backporting process from the Xbox version. Substance was originally released for Xbox and when they decided to bring it back to PS2 a lot of glitches came out of that conversion.

All Substance was good for was VR missions, Snake Tales and Casting Theater (this one was already included in the EU/JP versions of Sons of Liberty) and you can get all that shit in the HD versions anyway, so there's actually no reason at all to own Substance on PS2. Only Sons of Liberty (and preferably the JP/EU versions at that) and a digital copy of any of the HD/MC versions for the extras.

That's not the subtext though, the text itself is very clear. The ending spends like 20+ minutes explaining it very clearly and plainly.

He had accelerated aging, so he probably appeared to be in his late 20s physically at the time.

Maybe, but I'm not sure that rate lines up with his age in MGS2. Moreover, accelerated aging isn't the same thing as accelerated growth and there's no real reason to think his aging process was that different from Solid's -- it just hit him earlier and perhaps was a little slower.

Keep in mind, Raiden was part of a child soldier unit. A teenager like Solidus would have been a perfect fit to command it.

they cant remake MG1 and MG2 into a single game
the map of MG1 is bigger than mgs,mgs2,mgs3 and mgs4 combined

and MG2 is bigger than that by a HUGE margin

I simultaneously want them to make changes to fix the original and also not change anything so either way I'd be unhappy so no
Anonymous No.720102213 [Report]
Not much.
MGS3 worked for a remake because it had fairly open areas that could accommodate modern game design, the base game already ran like dogshit and it was crying for crouched walking and more streamlined camo switching.

Meanwhile 2 has always had lubed buttery smooth gameplay with carefully designed corridors, combining the remnants of the arcadey design of old with the hottest new technology available them. I also severely doubt UE5 and nu Konami will be able to replicate all the little TECHNOLOGY details from the original.

Wait, so all these issues that people attribute to the HD collection actually originate from Substance?

Not everything. The HD versions carried over all of the problems from the PS2 Substance, but they also introduced their own slew of problems. The 2023 MC version fully updated does fix a handful of things but ultimately it's not the ideal version of the game at all.

Play the MGS2 Sons of Liberty (E) iso on PCSX2 if you want a perfect first experience, assuming you've never played these games before. That will give you literally everything except for the extras.

If you liked the game on PCSX2 you can go ahead and grab the 2023 MC port on Steam/pirate it, and you can do a subsequent playthrough on it for achievements. HD is good as a secondary version of the game basically, after you've experienced the PS2 Sons of Liberty European version.
