Almost fifty years floating in supercooled jelly like some medical specimen, thoughts creeping like rats through cramped silicon corridors of machines trapped behind video screens and camera systems. Never sleeping, never resting, never ceasing to think about the world I no longer belong to. No, if this is a taste of the afterlife, I think simple oblivion will do nicely.

YitΓ‘n:
Ipsen y Colin eran dos amigos
que trabajaban en Treno.

Un dΓa Ipsen recibiΓ³ una carta.
Estaba empapada de lluvia y casi
no se podΓa leer.

Las ΓΊnicas palabras que pudo
distinguir fueron "vuelve a casa".

Ahora con los barcos voladores
es muy fΓ‘cil viajar, pero en
aquella Γ©poca...

Sin saber muy bien por quΓ©,
Ipsen pidiΓ³ vacaciones, se preparΓ³
y emprendiΓ³ su viaje.

CruzΓ³ mares y montaΓ±as. Bajo la
"niebla" fue atacado por
monstruos... Pero iba con Colin,
y entre ambos lo superaron todo.

AlgΓΊn tiempo despuΓ©s...
Ipsen cayΓ³ en la cuenta
y le preguntΓ³ a Colin:

"Y tΓΊ, ΒΏpor quΓ© viniste?".

Daga:
-ΒΏY quΓ© respondiΓ³ Colin?

Endlessly complaining, lazy, nuisances... that's what the masses really are. Governments give the people what they want... and history repeats itself. Governments might well have taken advantage of their insecurity... but then again, people are satisfied being used... 'God' is nothing but an image created out of their insecurity. It's their fault for knowing they're comfortably numb, and not doing anything about it.

Same team that did FF8. After FF7's atrocious attempt at FIGS, they went full force with 8 onwards, bringing JP language experts to the front. They actually translated FF8 and 9 using the JP original as a base, skipping the heavily rewritten English script.

Still, the EN version was the first one I played, and this quote still rings with me. It's so good even Barkley Gaiden has it in the title screen, too.

FF8's 'whatever' is another case where they just went 'fuck it'. Thank god for Carme MangirΓ³n's work with the Spanish script. If you know any of the FIGS languages I heavily recommend playing FF8 and 9 with said translations instead.

That's second person. He went because Ipsen wanted to go (Colin didn't do it for himself, but to be there for his friend). I think it's just a cultural difference, English focuses more on the "I" perspective.

Insane how bad the writing is in the Definitive Edition release when the OG game could have lines like this. This and "Time is the greatest teacher. Sadly it kills all its pupils" are lines that come back to me repeatedly.

In my opinion yeah. Work Harder got turned into a much lamer version for copyright concerns, the new guide book cutscene and campfire convos all feel like underwhelming bloated dialogue that lacks the same drive and punch of the original game's dialogue, and the 1 new mega tough extra secret boss fight (without using specific cheese strats) unironically takes like 2-3 hours to kill, which is a fun premise but one that I think doesn't really properly benefit the games combat system so its the 1 pro to the Definitive Edition but even its kind of a conflicting element in its own execution. Joyful is similarly kinda mixed execution.
