My cope is that it was just a low-budget side project to re-use the BoTW engine and assets as a sort of "mega DLC"

Nintendo famously finishes their games and sits on them for a while to time their releases strategically.
This is why DK Bananza was released 6 weeks after Mario Kart.
A far more frustrating example is when Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Splatoon 3 swapped release dates, because Xenoblade was ready and Splatoon wasn't. It led to this strange situation where the special edition for Xeno 3 was sold directly by Nintendo on their website because the physical goods for the special edition couldn't have their production schedules change and weren't ready until Fall 2022. So they shipped the game on release and promised to ship the goods later, which is why no retailer would touch it.
Anyway, to my point, I strongly believe TOTK was "feature complete" as early as 2021 and they simply spent time polishing and waiting for a time to release it would also be "safe" to test the 70 dollar price tag.

It is SO fucking shitty, the same copy/pasted basic enemies with no interesting attacks, that you kill with the same exact boring combat

Crafting is stupid

Pausing to heal with your infinite supply of crafted items is stupid

Building your own stuff is only fun for like a couple hours, or autistics and children who like Minecraft

Dude, I'm one of the biggest Zelda fags you'll ever meet. This was the first Zelda game I played in my entire life that I never finished. And I payed $70 for it. I wouldn't outright call it a piece of shit and had some very interesting ideas but it just didn't land. And to wait that long for the same game engine with a few tweaks is outrageous

A hundred caves and wells with only a handful memorable or having a decent enough rewards
Copypasted sky islands that all look the same
There's 30 more shrines but of the total count 1/3 of the shrines do NOT actually have content
The depths all look the same and work the same and don't change between hour 1 and hour 50
We made three new bosses! Now go kill them 40 times. Also kill the dungeon bosses 4 times the same way every time.
All the rewards are just amiibo loot from the first game
There's 130 sidequests, virtually none memorable, and you have to do precisely zero of them to beat the game comfortably

Wide as an ocean, shallow as a puddle. If I wanted to collect copypasted points of interest on a bloated map I'd boot up Assassin's Creed.

I got it on launch like a retard, played for about 5 hours and realized that this game was more of the same but pretty much worse in every department. I liked the old abilities a lot more than the new ones, and the building felt like shit. I went online to see if anyone felt the same but I only saw praise for this game. That's when I knew normalcattle can't be saved and we'll never get innovative games ever again.

I wasn't the biggest fan of crafting, apart from just creating simple constructions for puzzles, but even despite that it was great, ascend ability was really cool and the wind temple approach was peak.
