I thought even if Silksong was technically better than Hollow Knight in every way, I'd never like it as much because it wouldn't live up to moments like discovering the city of tears for the first time or getting lost in deepnest because I just don't really enjoy video games the way I did 8 years ago, but discovering the citadel and hearing the music kick in after Lace confronts you, and laughs at the idea you could kill a god after watching you make it up to the citadel by the skin of your teeth just blew everything in HK out of the water for me. Seeing all the seething about the games difficulty just lends to the illusion you're really on some grand climb to the top of the world to kill god, Team Cherry could've avoided all of the backlash and still got all of the praise if they had just made it easier but they didn't, I think that's true artistic integrity. This is one of the best video games I've ever played

I dumped 2 lockets into the Wanderer because I just came off the backs of beating Hollow Knight before playing this, and I'm wondering if I fucked up by not making Hunter better instead. Now I'm about to unlock Beast and Reaper and unsure if I'll like those but I'd want to be able to upgrade them too if one of them suits me.

I just entered act 2 today and it feels like there's so much to do all of a sudden! Like the game is just ramping up (please don't spoil if it's not, I'd rather be dissapointed later than now)
just unlocked the bellhouse in bellhart, holy shit, Hornet actually LAYS DOWN when you rest in her bed! And if you open the map while on there, she looks at the map while laying down, you can see it sideways! So much attention to detail, so much SOVL... AND you can decorate your house with cosy furniture and lights, man this is unreal. This is the exact kind of shit I love. One of my favorite parts of HK was the npcs, they all had so much personality and life, but there was only really one village to hang out in the whole game, which made it feel lacking. I love dirtmouth alot, but SS made the right move by making the hubs feel more alive. I love bonebottom, I love bellhart, and I love how you basically create a new settlement at the citadel first shrine. Those 3 are a natural evolution within the game, even beyond the evolution from dirtmouth. What an excellently designed portion man.
Also, just encountered the least fun boss so far. Fagwing or whatever that cunt bird was in the cunt bird region. He was so fucking annoying man. Eventually I downloaded his moveset and it wasn't that hard to beat him, it's all pogos and threadstorm, but it was rough man

i do not like the diagonal downward attack on the hunter's crest at all, and so i stuck with reaper ever since i got it

wanderer's fast attack speed is nice for bosses and deflection if that's how you want to play, but when exploring the reduced range really gets on my nerves

beast's berserker mode is a lot of fun, but again, having a predictable jumping attack that you can rely on is a big help in a lot of boss fights, and beast's upward launching diagonal spin attack is not for me

reaper is universally good, there's not a single boss, encounter, or platforming challenge where you'll think "man this just isn't working i should switch crests." it's never the absolute best option for anything, especially after you unlock some of the later crests like architect and shaman, but you can't go wrong maining it all game.
if in doubt, dump them all into reaper and then experiment with the others to see what else you might want to upgrade.

So now that the dust has settled, are there any NPCs you'd like to play as in Hollow Knight 3? Preferably a boy bug this time. Idk if there are any suitable that I've met. The one that jumps out at me is the green prince. Personally, since the first two game were about old and ruined kingdoms, I think the next one should be about a young and fertile landscape, ripe for the taking, and you play as the protagonist who is conquering these lands for his empire. Bosses could be various leaders of factions in these lands. Basebuilding is further expanded upon. Some ruins, obviously, are present, but we get to see the construction of new buildings and structures as the kingdom grows.

Gaymertip for any other old arthritic fucks whose left thumb is sore as hell from stress grip while pogoing: if you've got a controller with macroable back buttons like I do you can set one of your back buttons to down and the other to attack and then grip them in sequence for easy pogos. My dualsense was starting to have connection issues (either dogshit cable or dogshit port) so I swapped over to my victrix and started using the macros.

The hardest shit by far was the giant frog bug boss that from the cancer maggot zone and the magama arena that forces you to kill several flying enemies then escape backtracking everything while speedrunning so the magma won't kill you.

Those guys never died for me, I got all the way to the end of act 2 and they were still alive. Are you sure you are at the right spot? Its the hut in the upper right hand corner of an area in sinners rest. Do you see their dead bodies or are they just gone? There is another scene with them on a floor above that one, they could be there.

What tools are you using? I'm still in act 1, but I always use sting shard. I can't decide on the second one. Longpin seems good, but the range is lacking.

When you get the expanded blue rune for the beast crest you can slot in the injector band to go full retard and just constantly pop bind whenever and slash away on some bosses and there's pretty much nothing they can do about it because you heal 3 and take 2. The problem is the highly evasive ones, which cripple the tactic pretty badly.
