I like almost all the concepts in the show for the plot, characters and setting. I just think they were mostly badly written and that the season-by-season structure really highlights the lack of planning compared to ATLA. For instance, Korra struggling with airbending because she's a hothead was a good idea, but her unlocking it because she got her other bendings blocked at the time and was panicking (rather than properly learning and following the principles of airbending) was bad execution predicated by lack of time.

The real explanation for why Iroh refused to do anything actually helpful is that it's a kids show and the only characters that are allowed to drive the story are the kids.

The ending to ATLA was stupid. Why didn't they just have Aang disable or paralyze Ozai.
