What's a game you played solely to keep up with the crowd, only to find out you're not actually enjoying it?

I honestly can’t think of any
there are tons of shitty games I played because of love for the genre/franchise though

Playing pic with my friends and brother.
I hate the looter shooter genre, I hate the characters, I hate the writing overall, but I still played it a bunch anyways because there was a time period that it was the only thing they wanted to play.

I played about 70 hours of Counter Strike because my friends were obsessed with it. I hated every minute of it, even when we completely crushed the enemy team. I don't understand how that can be someone's primary game. It's so horrendously unfun and the playerbase is pure cancer.

Not the same game for me, but almost every game I've disliked but still put time into was because of them.
I wasted so much time playing goddamn Overwatch and it was like Christmas day when they told me they were finally sick of it.

i did force myself to play dead by daylight after i got tired of it, but not for that long. friends followed a few months later except one, he has 8000 hours in it, never plays anything else and makes it sound like playing it is like being waterboarded with battery acid. yet he keeps playing it for some reason. i know people with 10k+ in dota/LoL that are happier

Bought this and a couple other games like Elden Ring a couple years ago when I upgraded my PC. Around the time Phanton Liberty came out because that was 'the thing' at the time.
I got a few missions into Act 2 and almost to the point where you could start the DLC before I realised I just wasn't having fun.
I really like RPGs but it was painful playing through Cyberpunk and seeing all the RPG elements that got watered down so that it could appeal to the broadest audience possible and play like a GTA clone. Cool sandbox, awful RPG.
I need something a bit more structured or mechanically engaging to keep my interest when there are other games on my plate. What other people see in it that can't be delivered by other games I'll never understand, but I'm happy for them regardless.
TV show was a decent binge at least.

I played LoL for maybe 30 hours because my friend group was totally consumed by it. we still played a bunch of other games together after I dropped it, but my gaming time with them was like half what it used to be.

Still man, you put in the effort. I let my friends play hundreds of hours of LoL and never bothered to try it with them. I regret it, mostly the fact I didn't give my time to the things they liked.

>rpg
is not an RPG anon, more than 50% of the games on Steam or Gog who have the rpg tag are not fucking rpg's, like Elden ring, Persona, Cyberpunk, AC etc, if you have a shitty skill tree and dmg numbers going up doesn't mean you're an rpg
An RPG is something like Skyrim, Baldur's gate 1 and 2, Pathfinder, Diablo etc

back then I would have disagreed with your sentiment, but these days I know you're right. just spending time with your friends is worthwhile, so you might as well try new things with them. I could've spent more time with them but I was stubborn and stuck to things I liked. they acquiesced to my wants more than I did theirs.

Yeah I know man but that's the thing. A lot of my friends were selling me on the idea of CYberpunk being an RPG, as were all of the pre-release stuff for it.
It's annoying as hell.
Same thing happened when I tried Skyrim, was told to play it for ages by friends because it was like Fallout. Then I played it and it turned out to just be a sandbox where the only progressions relate to combat or doing things you were always able to do from level 1 just slightly better.

You should try getting back to them. Maybe not immediately for things in real life but for the prospect of playing new games. I occasionally speak with them and noticed that after all these years the games they play still align with what we used to play. Maybe your friends are the same and might have mellowed out from PVP to more co-op centered games. For now, don't focus on how much you give or take, just be there and work your way back up. I think we'd both regret not doing it.

Lineage 2 and World of Warcraft.

While I did like some MMOs (Ragnarok Online, Star Wars Galaxies, RF Online), L2 and WoW I played only because some friends were playing at the time, but I didn't quite like neither of them. Both were clearly inferior to Ragnarok in every important aspect.

The graphics were nice for the time, though.

I lost interest in near all gaming after about 2018 or so. Only recently rediscovered the games I enjoyed were all made 20 years ago.

It's either depression or refusing to move on, but I really don't think new games are very good at all.

>random indie simulator
>grinding game with no endgame
>xyz forgettable rpg
>needs a $3000 gpu to get constant 60fps
>tired series that should have been killed off a decade ago

Silksong. I love the exploration and some of the boss fights. But stuff like 2 damage for environmental hazards and some awful boss runback are horrible. The 10 round fight for act 2’s progression is horrendous. I don’t mind most of it but the two big minibosses at the end ruin it. Some zones are really bad too like the bile region it’s like the meme about Dark Souls and poison swamps but much much worse. That boss there has a four round fight before fighting the boss each time lol. Just let me spawn outside the boss room. I like harder difficult but many choices in Silksong are bad and wants to get on players nerves.
