Nintendo just dropped a new console, but you wouldn't know it though from how coy they're being, if you didn't know any better you'd swear it's just an upgraded version of the original Switch, which at the moment it kinda is and nothing more.

I don't really believe that. The Switch has a much better brand presence than Wii U, and currently going into the holiday they'll be targeting new buyers with the likes of Bananza, Mario Kart, and Pokemon, which are huge sellers. The people buying those games for the holiday likely won't be swayed more to buy if they know a new Fire Emblem is coming sometime next year, or a new Star Fox sometime by 2028.
Don't get me wrong, I myself would be pleased to see some new announcements, I just don't think it's true that they NEED it right now. Hence, I'm not getting my hopes up. But new games will eventually come.

The only other "real" Direct this year was Switch 2 Direct which I thought was pretty good.
The Switch 1 Direct that happened a week earlier was never going to have anything big with the successor coming out. Just some Switch 1 swan songs.
Other than that there were Partner's Showcase and Indie World Directs, but those types of Directs never had huge announcements.
A regular, general Direct is going to have big 3rd party announcements and since it's the last Direct of the year, Nintendo's first half of 2026 reveals as well.

100% agree. I believe that Gran Turismo would do pretty well too despite the lack of analog triggers on Switch 2 controllers. Switch 1 and 2 are missing actual good racing games and since Gran Turismo is popular in Japan, I believe it has the potential to do really well.

FR was by a different team so you don't really need to account for that in the gap between releases. It's what happens when people believe Xenoblade can just continue doing the same thing with the same battle system and same formula. The series has hit a ceiling of limited appeal in its current form and Nintendo knows this so they now leave a port of Xenoblade X out of the Direct cause they know the minority who were asking for it will find out about it themselves, so too will Xenoblade fans.

Monolith Soft's next game will be given spotlight because it will be different in some ways and aim to appeal to more people.

A port of Xenoblade X is just nothing most people care about except a minority of trannies and Internet dwellers.
