Disingenuous thought process when the intention with remakes and remasters isn't for them to live alongside the older version but rather to replace it entirely. The older versions are never made available in the same manner, they're never offered ports to new consoles, they're abandoned with emulation or PC gaming as the only choices to experience the intended adventure and not the downgraded, artless slop.

If the only way to experience a 20yo classic is via a shiny new reheated mess because the powers that be go out of their way to make sure the older, cheaper, more artistically consistent versions aren't readily available then yeah I'd say that's forcing people down the road they want them to go. Thus the whole "just play the original" not working, when people that play on PC and on top of that emulate videogames are in the minority relative to the issue.

Bro oblivion characters look like dogshit, we've known they've been dogshit for ages because of the shitty tech Bethesda used for faves at the time. Even Bethesda devs admit THOSE CHARACTERS IN THE ORIGINAL OBLIVION LOOK LIKE SHIT.

Oblivion is extremely overrated anyway. Finished the original a few weeks ago, the game was very repetitive and boring. Quests were alright but it absolutely doesn't make up for the rest.
After finishing Morrowind and Oblivion recently I can safely say that Skyrim is the better game overall out of the three games.

There's a great video from a guy who is actually an artist and fan of the game that completely nukes the aesthetic choices of the remake, pointing out clear examples of AI upscaling being used, entire models being changed to suit le moderne audense, clear downgrades in things like foliage density, character animation, facial features, texture detail(!), and an apparently unmastered HDR implementation (i.e. the devs just stretched gamut and luminosity without any direction at all).

I've never played Oblivion and probably never will but he makes a lot of compelling points. The leveing system is apparently better in the remake.

The more puzzling thing about it is that YouTube keeps removing the video. Like, even if I believe YouTube is politically-driven and self-interested, what's the rationale for that?

it got a barely noticeable "enhanced edition" that gives you some higher res textures and shit. still buggy as fuck and they censored a lot of soviet shit + russian language. they have started adding it back though after the negative feedback. ive only had time to play a couple of hours of it but it still has retarded bugs for me like not being able to adjust volume on pc while in game and alt tabbing breaking the game, etc.
