Dialogue from the Mask Makers in both games seems to indicate that some bugs are born with masks, while others need them created. So it is a mask, but one that is part of her. I think Hornet makes reference to the fact that Widow appears to have had her mask forcibly removed (I think in her Hunter's Journal entry?), which supports the fact that weavers have natural masks.

There are bugs that wear masks, and bugs that have shells. Masks are masked-shaped, and are seen a few times in HK with bugs who remove them, usually when attacking. Hornet, and the knight, have shells, not masks. They make up their entire head are not just covering their face.
This is muddied because shells are also referred to, metaphorically, as masks. This leads to the confusion in this thread.

No, we know it is a Mask because she tells the Mask Maker that it is. I kind off wish at the end she took it off so we can see her face. I doubt it looks anything like the Midwife, but I like most interpretations that it is a very spider like face that is more soft. Remember though that masks allow bugs to focus and remove certain undesirable natures. If she removes her mask, it means she is lifting a constraint and might do something unpredictable.

Missed opportunity. She should be taking the mask off in the final screen if you finish in XX hours.

Because Silk was forcing the Void up away from herself. The Knight couldn't control it, because it was trying to violently destroy an invader and inadvertently destroying Pharloom. Remember that Silk and Soul are linked and Void reacts to Soul and seeks it. So the silk going back up to Pharloom just meant that the Void traveled up it. We don't know how old Hallownest is exactly, but there are multiple non-deity characters still around who met with the Pale King in his post-Wyrm form so it's maybe a couple thousand years old at an upper end. As for the Radiance, we don't know how long she and her moth creations existed either, but I personally doubt they were significantly older than whatever deities were present in Pharloom's region before Silk exterminated them. We also know that when the Pale King had founded Hallownest, the Weavers had already migrated there, meaning that they can't have been made recently at all nor was their break from their mother a recent affair - it had to have happened well before Hallownest's founding.

I will give that maybe the Radiance would stand a better chance if she hadn't been weakened and forgotten for literal ages, but it's unlikely. Silk is a well experienced godkiller by the time Silksong starts and has never lost to any rival in an actual contest of strength. At most, back at her height, the Radiance had the faith of all the moths but I'm not sure that would be rnoughto bridge the sheer gap given Silk did her thing well before she could mainline off of the raw faith of all of Pharloom.

There's also the fact that the literal Void which ended the Radiance for good, even in the non-Godhome endings was NOT enough to destroy Silk and she was actively resisting it hard enough that Pharloom would probably be destroyed by it long before it could kill her. There's probably a reason the Godseekers came all the way out to Hallownest of all places with its mostly dead, sealed, or heavily diminished deities instead of going to Pharloom with its still alive and immensely powerful god.

Considering Hornet's dad was PK (pure white) and her mom was Herrah (dark gray (btw I think most of the normal bugs that are colored black would be a really dark gray instead of the perfect pitch black that should be void exclusive)) I imagine hornet's skin would be a medium gray tone.
The black is probably supposed to be armor, going by HK where you see all the segments and pointy bits. In universe armor = shell and it seems most bugs just have it naturally but clearly it can be artificially made and removed (see false knight) but this is either more difficult than humans removing metal armor, or is something only some bugs can do and others might not even know is possible judging by the slab. PK's robe looks like clothes so he's probably naked under them too. Dunno about Herrah but hornet takes more after her dad.

His robes and wings are separate things. In the White Defender fight we see his wings' silhouette at the same time as his robes, plus the shape and size doesn't match.
There's plenty of bugs drawn in black like zote and shakra but since they're not void they're probably not supposed to be shadows house tier. At the very least it would be a highly reflective black like some beetle elytras are.
