I played a pirated version of it a bit and it was kinda interesting and fun for a few hours. It’s a dungeon crawler with grid-based movement and a first person perspective as you might expect. I think it’s all randomly generated but I can’t really remember now. It’s all I could really think of off the top of my head to contribute.

Played it last year, got through the whole thing in maybe 9 hours? It's good if you're craving that SNES-style JRPG feel without the 40-hour time commitment. The planets aren't massive, think more like "three chunky towns and a dungeon or two each" than some open galaxy exploration. It’s all fairly linear. Good music though, and the battle system is actually solid. Definitely worth grabbing on a sale.

Fun little roguelike musou. The gimmick is in creating your special attacks from the ground up by combining weapon types, elements, and a couple dozen attack modifiers to get different movesets. You can either experiment and see what combinations you get, or defeat "historical" samurai in game to later play as them and see how their skills are constructed. There's like 129 samurai, constant progression, etc.

It's good, and you can get comically strong and slaughter soldiers by the thousands like in any good musou.

Haven't played this one, but I can recommend their other game, Metal Bringer. A roguelite mecha musou, where you combine parts, weapons, and upgrades, and can obtain new ones permanently through foes you defeat.
It also has a steep difficulty curve that can get quite punishing.

Shigatari may not be a hidden gem, but I rarely see people talk about it anymore.
It's turn-based Samurai FTL. Probably my favorite in that tiny genre. Kind of a playable shitpost also.
That said, it's got too little content. You see repeated events not just between runs, but within runs.
On the other hand, it's 3 bucks. On the other other hand, it's always 3 bucks because it never goes on sale.

If the graphics are really good but there's no gameplay, get the fuck out. Period. No more VNs, no more walking simulators... Even the walking simulator is literal, where moving limbs is the gimmick. Stop that shit, those are not games, and they're not gems. It could be a completely FREE game, and i would still say they're clumps of shit and deserve to be left on the ground where they lay.

If the graphics are MS Paint tier but the gameplay is obviously high-effort in the genre, like if it's a tactical turn based style with a lot of statistical and unit interactions, then it's passable if the price is reasonably low to attract people despite cheap artwork.

If it really looks unique and the number of similar looking or feeling games is minimal (and it manages to not be an obvious "__game engine name here__" style game) and every single component of the game is tuned to be the utmost peak of quality... but somehow it has 10 reviews in a year? then it's a genuine hidden gem that could be priced at $20 or more and be worthwhile to someone, if the game is in their favored genre(s) all that needs to be done is fucking advertise it and tell people it exists.

I didn't put much time into it but enjoyed it well enough. On my second or third run I got the sticky legs and just ran up the outside of the final gauntlet instead of battling, so I was able to beat the final boss through a combination of luck and not having lost a bunch of HP getting there.

btw. before refunding his game I copied the install folder because it just launches without even calling to steam so I was planning to continue playing it and maybe rebuy if I ended up liking it, but the dialogue was so atrocious that I just couldn't anymore after stage 6 or so.

I liked the system where you actively fight your opponent with health bars, attacks, skills and everything. And you have to react to their actions and not just score points or some shit like in Huniepop. For example enemy can create blocks that damage you every turn until you drop it to the bottom and it's essential to play around that while still managing your attacks/heals/utility.

Well, the Dark Disciples link has a pretty good description and screenshots, so that should be enough for you to decide. It's a single character top-down turn based Ultima-like heavy on exploration & puzzles with multiple approaches to quest solving.

I agree that the SCFWorks pages are pretty barebones. Last Scenario is a well executed very traditional old-school JRPG. Exit Fate is a suikoden-like with a huge cast of characters.

Really enjoyed this one. Very rough with a lot of potential, but the base game in its current state is pretty alright. Campaign missions are a bit dull, but bumping up the difficulty does help with making the game more exciting to play. The DLC is a massive improvement overall to the base game. It's less of a DLC and more of an expansion since it adds a hefty amount of new content to every part of the base game, and all of the new content is fairly good (new weapons/armor tier, better enemy variety, way better mission variety).

Base game is $16 which might be a bit steep for an indie game. Worse off is the expansion which is an additional $10, yet it massively improves upon the base game. I bought the DLC since I enjoyed the base game a lot, and the DLC really does bring a lot more to the table in terms of overall quality and fun to be had. It could also be my personal bias since it really scratches that itch for a mecha horde shooter.

I would say it requires a decent jrpg background in terms of vocabulary, since after each level you have to buy spells. Each spell does something different so it would be better if you understand what you're doing. I wanted to play as a caster but I finally went for healer because the ai kind of suck at healing. Being the healer allow you to keep exploring longer. Just stock up on mana pills and you will be able to grind dungeons.
I would also avoid hiring too many people at the start of the game so you can get more money from splitting rewards. I went with healer (me) tank (waifu amazon) and a caster with multi target spell.
Don't take too many quest at once too because travelling takes so much time you will fail some of them. Try to get quests that bring you back to the town next to each other.
So basically : do non-fight quests > buy mana pills > grind dungeons. That's what I did.

The post-game super bosses are generally pretty challenging, the hardest of which introduces its own mechanics wholly unique to its fight.
As for the main game, playing on anything besides Hardcore+Tactical is too easy, but Tactical isn't even available until after you beat the game at least once.
Scrubs will usually find themselves walled at things they can't out-grind since level really isn't that important except to unlock character skills, meaning that all kinds of low-level challenges are possible as long as you're good enough at the game.

Dustland Delivery. Basically a game about being a trucker in a post apocalyptic wasteland, moving supplies and trade goods between settlements and outposts of various size. If you ever played flash games like Caravaner, it's a lot like that except much more fleshed out. And there's more to do than just driving around, you can also be a mercenary or develop your own settlement, but it's pretty much open world. There are a few different worlds to choose from with different attributes and overall difficulty. And it's only $8.

Also you can have sex and have a cyborg waifu and some friends travel in your truck with you, but of course you'll need more supplies to travel the more people you have. The truck is also customizable and upgradeable, some are better for combat, basically tanks shaped like trucks, while others are more cozy for living in and long hauls, while some are Chinese style super uncomfortable and shitty but good at transporting large quantities of goods, etc.

There's not really much of an overarching storyline, but sometimes you'll come across stories here and there that you can follow if you want, and potentially fuck up and make things worse depending on your decisions and skill. It's possible to be an evil greedy bastard, or a wasteland trucker saint, or whatever.

Through somewhat contrived plot progression, you become the emergency 9-11 operator for the night and there is a serial killer who may or may not be the ghost of a serial killer from 30 years ago stalking the town. In Quasimorph you play as a futuristic mercenary company in the far future of our solar system where AnarchoCapitalism is the name of the game. Various corporations control every planet and moon and there are constant bloody conflicts between them for territory and technology. You can play favorites, helping certain companies grow faster, maybe because you like their ideology more or just because you prefer the weapons and other gear they develop over other companies. It's usually best to pick at least 1-3 favorite companies, because growing at the same time is this strange alien/demon force that's also competing with the humans, both in violence and capitalism. They can show up whenever you do mission around certain planets, and different demon gods rule each planet so fighting them is always different. They're attracted by violence, dismemberment, and blood, and also things like cannibalism or torture.

I believe there are 3 or maybe 4 different story lines to follow. You can side with the Civil Resistance or AnCom, who are both trying to overthrow the AnCap status quo. Or you can go with SBN, which is basically the major media company of the AnCap system and controls the networks and information, mostly. Or you can side with the weird extradimensional demon things. The game is early access but it's in active development and gets big updates at least once a month, usually more. A big one just came out making the game 0.95. But I've been playing it for a while now and it's never felt incomplete, they just keep adding new companies and content. The base game itself is already complete.

It's based on the movement you choose. Almost everything gets 1 to 3 actions per turn, and so do you. You get 1 action if you're sneaking, 2 if you're walking, and 3 if you're sprinting. sneaking lets you sneak obviously, but also detect enemies that you can't see by listening. Yeah, i know, but the main thing i dislike is that turns are not synchronous - you act, then enemy acts, that's what i remember of the demo. I dislike it because it kind of limits the potential for chaotic shit that can happen. I think it still works pretty well, and I like the little touches like how shooting guns leaves the empty casings on the floor, so if you hold up for a while somewhere then there's just shit everywhere.
