However, i think XB2 is bets enjoyed when not taken too seriously, the English dub has A LOT of issues, but has a certain cheesiness to it that adds a certain charm. Even the JOIN MEEEE scene memed to death was pretty endearing to me, because the music and i actually liked the calm performance.

Xenoblade dubs are almost always superior especially when they're bri'ish. But Xenoblade 2 really missed it. Rex's english voice is just embarrassing and Pyra/Mythra have such a flat affect that they sound borderline autistic. I played with both. I've always planned to replay them anyway.
JP voices are more quality but the fuckin brits are funny.
I actually really like the 1 dub especially. 3's is mostly fine (some of the Moebius people are a little goofy.) 2's JP dub is WAY better but there is some real entertainment in 2s and some of the scenes are good. Its a mixed bag, mostly due to Rex's being off so often and the timing not always adding up in the scenes themselves.

I usually give the dub a shot for a few minutes then switch it to japanese if it think they did a bad job. If the game is set in Japan or follows specifically japanese speaking japanese protaganists ill probably default to japanese for the dub.

If the localization changes between japanese and english are too egregious where the dub and the text dialogue diverge too much sometimes ill be forced to do english in that case or ill stop playing and wait for a retranslation or ill refund

Shorter dev time + the meme of doing voice takes with no context will do that to a game's voice direction. But desu it's just Rex's yelling and a couple small quirks here and there from others. Actually the worst part is some of the rare blades, but the ones I remember having bad voices were usually not on the usable side anyway. Like you said the games did not have English lip sync at the time, which can be jarring at times.

If they could just optimize it a bit and maybe make small QoL alterations then I'd be fine. As much of a gripe people have with the field skills, cutting it out entirely would be weird. The BLADE level stuff being neutered was strange but I understood why because I played the original. I'd also be concerned with them neutering field skills. Just make them passive so you don't have to menu and equip Blades all the time. Also don't have to see a Blade's image every time they contribute to a field skill. It was in part, except for the affinity chart grind. Controlling the characters in battle feel terrible because of how slow they move, the fact that they can't attack while moving, and the fact that the blades act fucking retarded and can't stick close to you to save their lives.
