But what it can do with budget and scale, 3H tried to do.

That's what makes Engage and the musou so dumb to me. It just showed a bit of a lack of awareness at the time when AAA was criticised for the things those were doing.
Sure, Persona has a lot of slop to it, but people kinda appreciate the scale of the game and all the intricacies of the production, all the characters and dialogue, all the things you can do, so it feels AAA to me, something small corps and indie devs cannot do without compromises. I do feel like 3H still compromised a lot itself though, mainly with the gameplay on maps. But what it was doing with parties and how they at least tried to flesh out those characters at all felt like a step in the right direction. I just wish the party mechanics were more gameplay orientated with strategy involved, so you're not just doing a VN with extra steps. Even Persona fucks this up. It should be things like:

And then have consequences for that. Appeasement of parties is an interesting mechanic to me. Diplomacy is an interesting mechanic that feels appropriate for FE, a game with essentially a derivative of chess and some rogue mechanics.

I don't like how you have the option to not have permadeath. Permadeath should be a focused mechanic that drastically changes the story and the consequences of a playthrough. Permadeath should set flags for a new ending and a new path of narrative.
FE 3H felt like it was just starting to touch that itch for me. Indie can do this, but not like AAA could with cinematics, etc.

It's not even close to perfect, but it does have potential as a game, especially for something AAA could attempt to distinguish itself from indie games more.
