RE shouldn't have the amount and style of enemies 6 has. 4 is the absolute upper limit for the kind of offense that should be thrown at you. Contextual moves are good, but 4 already has that covered with the finishers on stunned enemies and the occasional specific dodge. 4 has very consistent reactive defensive options that are quick and don't lock you into long animations. That's a good thing. Now this part is going to be really hard for you to understand because you're some flavor of retarded shitskin, but making something flashier doesn't automatically make it fun or cool.

I'm thinking of picking up the originals for my PS2. I was too scared to play them as a kid. I played the remakes of 2 and 3 and wasn't paticularly impressed. I think 7 is one of the most overrated games in decades and I'm yet to play 8 and the remake of 4, but so far I think only the remake of 1, OG 4 and 5 with my ex is the only genuine fun I've had with the series. Had CV for Dreamcast too but was too young to get anywhere with it.

Well I hope the rest of the game lived up to those expectations, even considering the silly moments like the "car boss fight" and using the chainsaw and getting used to automatic guns from the Ship onward.
Personally I loved 7 BUT...I didn't feel like replaying it as much as with RE2 the remake, which, counting the second playthrough with the other protagonist, plus that alternative way and the speedrun, I finished 5/6 times within 2 weeks, it just feels like it has the perfect lenght, is the game I can feel in my pocket and that I want to explore and optimize more, but with 7, as much as I feel that is between a 8 and a 9, I stopped not even halfway through my replay, it feels like is not the same the second time around.
Maybe I felt more freedom in 2 in the way you can optimize your path.

I disagree. The gameplay is meaningless if the game just doesn't look good. Otherwise you get repetitive walkable rail-shooters like RE5 and RE6. Style over substance, always.

You may not like it personally but the Raccoon City depicted in the Outbreak games was intended to remake the city yet still respect the original layout from RE2 and RE3. That's the complete opposite of the complete re-imagination in the RE2 and RE3 remakes with a huge city that barely resembles the midwestern small town that it used to be.

But RE9 seems to solve this by letting the player explore the areas that weren't affected by the nuke. Rhodes Hill to be exact, which was mentioned in the Outbreak games. And those areas are now modeled and designed following the Outbreak aesthetics which not only makes RE9 to look like a continuation but also a nice meta nod about the FAKE Raccoon City from the RE engine remakes being nuked and the OG Raccoon City from Outbreak left standing in the surrounding areas.

The development hell of RE 3.5 is so interesting to read about. All those different ideas coming and going along with the videos. The whole project was such a hotspot of ideas in fact, that it spawned 3 games and a franchise (RE4, DMC and Demento/Haunting Ground).

You're right though. RE 3.5's castle was supposed to be Spencer's main family one and it was listed as "the origin of the Progenitor Virus" (instead of RE5's Africa). The whole thing had a finite aura around it, like Leon was going into the belly of the beast, to go and fight the Big Bad (Spencer) and put a closure to the whole trilogy. Most likely even Umbrella, though I doubt they would just throw that whole angle away. They'd just introduce "neo-Umbrella" corpos to take the mantle like they have.

And they also wasted the potential of the DLC itself. The Spencer castle is supposed to be set in an island just like DMC. And the island was confirmed to have some warehouses connected to the Spencer castle. None of those areas are explorable. No enemy variation. No alternate endings. No nothing. The DLC could have easily been a game on its own.

I'm almost positive that slithering hop they do when you blow a leg off was pulled from Jeepers Creepers 2. Maybe their whole regenerating gimmick came from the Creeper too. The original RE1 may be what you're looking for. The mansion is very open and some areas can be skipped entirely. Also, some story events happen differently depending on how you explore. The remake has some openness as well but to a lesser extent.
In both the original RE1 and remake, the mansion gets harder the second time you go through it because of the hunters.
