>How?
We both know the climbing is cool and furn in modern TR, regardless if you dislike the Lore (or actual history lessons) offered to you.
You'll have a hard time pretending that a barely tricky detour in oldTR to pick up a green ugly item on the ground is any better than unlocking good 3D model with history lesson in modern games.
>Original TR was all about making climbing and jumping methodical and challenging
Please, oldTR were the ancestor of QTE jump where you die until you memorize the sequence, sure it was challenging but in a simple way with a frustrating interface forcing you to fail jump that Lara should have no problem with.
Look at webm, 90% of the time its just line yourself up, direction+jump, and maybe push the button to grab.
That's like pretending original Mario bross is peak traversal and better than N64 mario.
Modern Tomb Raider games require you to analyze the photorealistic environments to understand what you could use to reach your destination. The yellow paint meme is only an unfortunate side effect of being able to climb almost everything.
>just press Space
Be honest, you'd die everywhere doing only that. You only remember that because the interface is so fluid that every other movements feel as natural as if you controlled her with your thoughts.
In a battle, old TR is only about out-jumping dumb NPC while fighting the controls.
Modern TR movements are so "simple" that to challenge you the NPC work in coordination to flush you out of cover, force you to reach them in close range, or use the environment & physics to gain the upper hands.
There's no point worshiping old Tomb Raider games, sure they are unique as most work of art is, but their gameplay was just the best we could do at the time.
