1) Get a Playstation BIOS file (Preferably SCPH-7501) and an original US CTR dump image from somewhere (like this link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vbAs2itnOWirBSMufclOlfvWf_yAhaMr/)
2) Download Launcher from https://www.online-ctr.com/ and follow instructions
3) Configure your controls (or click automatic mapping when it prompts you)
4) Pick a server and room (or make a private one using your IP)
5) Share the info and wait for anons to join
As simple as that!

3) Matchmaking mode should probably connect anons together considering the online is not very active anymore, but if that doesn't work, players will need to add each other as friends in their platform of choice in order to make a Private Lobby

5!) VERY IMPORTANT, since the game loads slightly better in newer consoles (PS5, Switch 2, Xbox X) it's –allegedly– inadvisable to skip the intro cutscene as it'll desync with other players and softlock the race lol

1) Go online, choose a server region
2) Choose "Make Room"
3) There should be a code on the main screen, share that including the region in which you are hosting
4) That's it
Custom tracks should be automatically downloaded as they are picked, but characters and karts won't, so in order to see other player's mods you'll need to subscribe to them on the workshop yourself

Wat is the plot off CTR? Oxide shows up and like Space Jam challenges humans to beat him in a race or some shit? Why is it specifically the Crash Bandicoot cast that takes up the challenge rather than, you know, professional racers?

All very new, because the game is getting its sourcecode decomped. The more you can decomp, the easier it is to make tools, manipulate the engine, and so forth, including making new maps.

Right now, the big hurtle for new tracks is that they don't know how to make NPC race lines for AI players.

There's a few PS1 games getting decomp projects that I'm aware of:

Getting them to work with online would be fine enough for me. Doing an entire tournament of Speed Freaks with players would be fun. No one is going to decomp the source code for Speed freaks anytime soon, so playing those tracks in another similar engine is good enough for now.

Especially for the fact that TK2 has no speed limit and with enough speed and wonky geometry you can jump like 50 feet in the air lol. Reminds me when me and a couple more people discovered that turn-around Electron Avenue lap skip right at the start of the track idk if they actually ever patched it, it was pretty hard to do

The goal is to low key port tracks from other games to the CTR engine since CTR has online and is being decomped, and those games do not.

Oh yeah, because it's the base game and the base engine. The way a custom track works now is that if you download a single custom track, you patch the game, and that rom just becomes a new CTR game, but the only track is the custom track. There's other ones with campaigns with a collection of tracks. It's all a WIP.

According to the prologue, the Crash Bandicoot cast were apparently going to do races anyways, Oxide heard about it and decided to insert himself into the racing series. I guess it's mostly just to give the whole thing a bigger stake than anything else. In adventure mode you are going through all the tracks to prove you're the best, so you can then face off against Oxide for the fate of the world.

And it's funny that it's just as likely that Neo Cortex or Dingodile is the "hero" in this scenario.
