I was interested in this and because my assumption was that it would be linear and pre-determined, I didn't try the demo to not spoil myself. Both work together even if they seem counter intuitive combined.

There isn't an actual reason provided by the TV or by the exposition providers to let everyone in. In fact they advise you to be extremely careful.

You learn you need to let others in because one of the entities is much bolder and more violent, and will kill you if you are alone. This is something you learn on your own. This is further reinforced by the fact that you witness the murders of teenagers and armed soldiers outside your house, showing you can't fight them if they seriously want to kill you and aren't bound by whatever neurotic rules that causes them not to attack and kill you instantly for letting them in.
