Because people are biased and you get to see and feel your teammates mistakes a lot more clearly and directly than all the mistakes your opponents are making. What you're saying couldn't be more far from the truth. In reality, I always reach the top 10% of players in every competitive game I play. Which is usually Diamond tier or higher. It's not that my skills have rusted, I'm still consistently good after playing these games for over 12 years. I'm just running out of patience to deal with these games when today's matchmaking systems put toxic crybabies and boosted animals on my team. I wouldn't say PvP games are trash, but what I ended up realizing is that MP games aren't that great and mostly a waste of my free time unless I play them with actual friends. Grinding some MP game with randoms and just getting pissed off at them and never communicating with them anyway ain't great. Playing good SP games is much better than MP with randoms in 2025 and MP with friends (be it coop or PvP) can still be really, really fun.
