Hello-engine Mario fangames were my jam back in middleschool. I even worked on one that got so big and ambitious that game maker itself crashed when attempting to load the project file and almost hosed the entire project (it took a weekend to basically rebuild the project file from new to circumvent some dumb shit. Im pretty sure this incident forced YYG to implement some memory cleanup features in the next release since they never expected anyone to collaborate on a team with the tool. Every single asset (sprites, objects, sounds, scripts, rooms, etc) still got loaded into memory even after being deleted from the project.
