Azuma is mindnumingly easy. The other games don't have its town building crap, a proper village where everyone has their own homes, more engaging farming, more RPG elements.
As an example, Azuma had a smithing skill, but it's almost worthless as you get every recipe in dungeons and the best bonuses only reduce crafting costs. All this for equipment you never have to upgrade because magic is so much stronger.

I have about 150 hours in RF5 and I wouldn't recommend it. It's just so much of a downgrade compared to 4 and 3. I will admit it has some positives over 3, like the main story actually lasting a decent amount of time. And you may ask why I spent 150 hours on a game I didn't think was good. The setting of the Azuma games seemed to be the "divine" region of the country and where the deities resided. But it was explicitly spelled out that the center of population, infrastructure and commerce of the country itself took place in a completely different place i.e. the capital. The actual central administrative and military power of the country itself seems to be doing just fine even after getting the gods hiroshima'd.

Assuming Azuma's history mirrored Japan itself, then the parallels make a lot more sense. Because there came a point where the Shogun was the actual ruler of the country that handled day to day affairs while the Emperor was more just a cultural/spiritual head. If the Azuma gods were fulfilling the role of the Emperor in real history, then the situation in Azuma becomes much more believable.

One thing that RF5 glossed over and didn't dwell too much on outside brief references is that the collapse of Sex actually caused a continental war of sorts in Adonea. Gideon spergs out about how there were tons of death, suffering, brothers turned on fellow brothers etc. WAR IS HELL and all that.
Things calmed down by the time RF5 happened, but some crazy shit happened in the 4-5 decades between RF4 and RF5.

You could do so much with this, it's crazy that they only made it a one time thing. With daily gifts you can modify your monsters to have access to nearly every stat in the game. You can stack every status ailment, every elemental resistance, crit, knockback and of course they share the same max level as you do. I'm tempted to go for a monster battler-only playthrough.
