Original Xbox, then PSP, then PS2, then saturn, then genesis, then Dreamcast, then 360, then PS3, then wii, then PS4, then 3DS, then wii, then gamecube.

it’s pretty weak outside of piracy but I imagine the newest exploits on 360 might bring some neat stuff to it

PSP hands down. Everything the original iPhone did, the PSP was doing years before it thanks to its modding scene. Things like Youtube and other streaming sites(porn for instance) on a portable device was unheard of at the time. Modders would reveal just how limited the PSP was and would unlock its true potential by like 120%. It didn't just stop at software either, the hardware mods were crazy. At 1 point modders turn it into a fucking phone. The PSP is probably what got most people into modding their system as most of the alternatives was to buy some shady kit or pay someone online to do it for you.

Even today, people are still coming up with new mods for the system. Not long ago someone added WEP2 for its internet encryption so now it can connect to the internet again. The things people did to this system was wild.

wii, being able to use literally every online service again and them being active is something most consoles will never get

I honestly wish I could remember my old favorite PSP hacking sites. Those have been long gone and can't find anything on google. Pic related I remember going here a lot. If you were into PSP modding, chances are you knew or saw the name Dark Alex a lot. Dude fucking blew the PSP wide open.

Some of the my favorite homebrew app I can remember though were one lets you display your PSP's screen to you PC using a USB cable. Some perfect cheat hacking apps with a huge PSP code hacking scene. Dozens of emulators. One app that could literally save your state in any PSP game like what emulators do. Modding your PSP alone would offer a ton of options like increased the official storage limit as the PSP had a limit on how big of storage it could support. I think modded lets you use up to 1 or 2 TB which was insane at the time. There was also overclocking your PSP to run games better. Increased media file support. Playing multiplayer games online without a fucking PS3.

I am learning for the first time the huge xbox was a modders dream. Wtf I modded my PSP to hell and back and I never heard of this. I mean I did have a PS2 instead but still.

Why are Dreamcast homebrew devs obsessed with porting PS1 and N64 games to it?

I'd be more impressed if it was the Saturn honestly. I'd pay good money to see what certain games would look and run like on the Saturn. Late 5th gen PS1 and N64 games especially.

PS3 is a close second. You can even run Linux on it.

PSP for ingenuity

Wii for comfy

Vita for strong dedication

Everything else was simply just buy shitty kits or wait and buy game exploit to mod your system, just soulless. I know the above 3 were the same back then but at least those 3 would improve over night while we're still doing this buy this physical 6th gen game to mod your 6th system better with 40% accuracy.

There's no point in asking. It's obvious to everyone those systems had way more great games.

I know NES and Game Boy are unique in that they actually have dev kits that allow beginners to create their own games. As far as pre-internet consoles go, that's a big deal.

Would be difficult. The Saturn used a variant of Nvidia's first GPU, the NV1, which used Quadrilateral Primitives instead of the normal Triangular ones everything else uses. Needless to say, quads and trigs don't mix very well and the PC version of the NV1 had serious issues trying to run games with normal primitives.

I imagine the issues would be similar on the Saturn.

>>721141319
(Cont.) And by serious issues I mean severe performance drops. There's a good reason S3ga and Nvidia abandoned quads.

That's why some game ports like Quake had to effectively be rewritten from scratch so they'd work on the Saturn.

Why didn't Dreamcast use Nvidia's GPU?

I cracked open my PSP battery, risked possible fires and explosion, used the lead from a pencil to disconnect a circuit because I didn't have a soldering iron and hacked my PSP. This was normal for early PSP hacking.

I'd say in gaming potential the vita, but in raw customization and freedom, 3ds, you can install patches that modify your 3ds homescreen beyond the usual custom theme, and the 3ds had no issue with updates for too long, since the main exploit target, the arm 9 bootloader, is completely fucked, so any update Nintendo put out was just closing a door and a few days later a new entry point would be discovered and made the update completely pointless, vita iirc needs to be on 3.60 since they patched out the exploit in later FW, also a modded 3ds is basically a middle finger to Nintendo saying "no I won't buy your $140 virtual boy plastic, I got my modded 3ds with red viper, and not only can I play in 2d, I also have stereoscopic 3d, and pallet adjusting too! Suck it!" Or "no I will not pay $80 for Mario kart of the wild + straight line tracks. Ctgp-7 has plenty of custom community made FREE tracks to dig into, plus free online multiplayer!" Tl;Dr a modded 3ds is one of the best ways to flip off Nintendo while not really risking jail time.

What console has the worst scene? And whether it's bad enough that having even nothing would be preferable.

I take personal offense when a console mod that adds HDD game library doesn't adhere to the original design sense of the console and I will find the mod that restores the natural aesthetics at any cost.
My xbox is a long vertically scrolling list which looks like and makes the noises of the OG dashboard
My Wii doesn't have coverflow, and instead has a "channel" for each game that's installed.

I never did understand how to connect a second Wii remote without using the Home menu every time I opened a new channel. I wanted to play Goof Troop with my nephew on it once but for some reason the emulator's devs made the Home button bring up its own menu instead.
