What others changes do you wanna see to skills/mechanics? What classes should be buffed? Should they change EXP in any way?

they'll fuck it up as soon as they add the same ol' shitty cash shop and gachapon being tied to progression (scroll supply, chaos, white scrolls) thinking that when ppl said they love old school they also meant old monetization when that's not the case and if anything, they should've realized by now that the reason why modern maple is 80% reboot players is not because people love ironman-esque playmodes but because reboot removes 95% of the monetization which makes it more attractive.

1 to 2 months of hype, then a very low playerbase, unless they listen and do monthly subscription play-model and osrs-esque polling updates / update methodology

xp curve is gonna depend on the content release schedule imo
if launch content is just 3rd job + zakum, then 1x is honestly is gonna pretty adequate knowing what we do now and with unlimited pq channels
if i was in charge, i'd bump it up to like 3x once 4th job is available

my prediction for content release, i think that they'll go with the 'phase' system popularized by wow classic:
phase 1: 3rd job, all content up to and including ossyria (zak/pianus/pap endgame)
phase 2: 4th job, leafre
phase 3: world tour stuff, so nlc/zipangu/singapore(?) and all the implications they have on progression
phase 4: ToT + pink bean
phase 5: db + evan + aran

i doubt they go into big bang but i will hold a sliver of hope that some of the resistances get backported (battle mage my beloved)

The point is to retain the feeling and progression of old MS, but changes like basically requiring a party to grind in this Classic server will help keep the game social, which is one of the main things people miss from old school MS. It’s not authentic to the original game, but it makes the game better since expectations have changed over the past 20 years.

we know it's f2p, the cash shop has been explicitly omitted from all tests so far which means they're 100% adding in the 2x exp coupons, probably bringing back the quest one too.
I'd be surprised if they do direct purchase instead of the lootboxes for cosmetics like they do right now.
I think at best they won't have cubes, but they'll still have gachapon scrolls, dark scrolls, etc. Unless they're having NO non-kms content like jipang, that brought all those things in. But that also leaves the base game with precisely 0 content after PQing.

I don't have much faith for them to handle classic but they've at least shown through the previews that they're most likely going to take an OSRS approach instead of a 1 to 1 port

Pretty sure people already extrapolating that the XP tables are unchanged, which is good. What I do hope is that they switch up the maps a bit so we don't just have the exact same optimized maps as the original game, there were a few slumps that were truly grueling to grind through and smoothing that out a bit would be welcome. We're old now.

Other than that I do want some skill rebalancing, I don't mind if overall the same classes are dominant but I just want a bit more build variety at least. I'm excited to play no matter what even though I'm setting my expectations fairly low. The experience will be carried on vibes which is good enough for me.

Mostly depended on your class. Archers had zero problems maxing out skills for 2nd job, but if you didn't read a guide you could fall into the trap of putting points into Final Attack. They had more than enough points for maxed Mastery, mobbing, Booster, Soul Arrow, and power knock back. I think Brawlers had it the worse with skills and SP.

The only way to help the Paladin branch is to restart the whole branch or to rework monsters/bosses to have more elemental weaknesses. Their biggest flaws is that stupid elemental charge gimmick they have with almost no bosses being weak to elements and being constrained to so few training spots unless they want to do trash damage on neutral targets.

the main thing I miss about maplestory was the fact that the entire MMO was built around comfortable hand placements on a keyboard. The ergonomic comfort of maplestory was top notch, and I would love to revisit the concept but whatever is running now and MS2 seem awful.

I don't see them meaningfully changing how the class works or tweaking a ton of monster values to make pallys strong vs them, realistically they'll just tweak some numbers and it just won't do anything. Their best bet would prob just be adding more good maps to farm so they can at least have fun generating a lot of money even if they remain irrelevant otherwise. People are fine with playing classes that aren't meta as long as they're fun and can do SOMETHING but pallys from my memory were just flatly unfun.

There is literally, actually, zero reason to ever put a single point into LUK for a Magician. They are statistically and mathematically gimping themselves by doing so. Any investment in LUK is unoptimal.
1 INT = 1 Magic Attack & 1 Magic Defense, and also doubles as Magic Accuracy (something that is SUPPOSED to be LUK's job, but it sucks at it). Additionally, 10 INT = 1 additional MP per level up. More MP means stronger Magic Guard, more casts before potion use, and more potion flexibility. The only thing you lose out on without LUK is equipment, but Defense is insanely useless after 1st job and pure INT will have more than enough Magic Defense anyway. Weapons are the only issue, but once the LUKless weapons rear their head it's all over.

INT needs a serious nerf, or you won't see a single person wearing Magician equips ever.
