Does /v/ like rare 90's RTS games?

I found the source code for this game from 1996 and got it working. It's got multiplayer and somehow supports multithreading even though its from 96

It's like a Sim Cityish version Command and Conquer.

Anyways, I got it working.

it needs a lot of work to get modernized, but as is it supports multiple monitors, multithreading, and has no player limit. I don't have the server software compiling yet, but when I do it should support absolutely massive online games.

if anybody here knows c++ and netcode and is so motivated, any contributions are welcome. if not, ill get it eventually.

there is no reason to play RTS games nowadays, they'Ve been replaced by 4x, grand strategy, real time tactics and other genres

if you really think about it, there's no reason to play any game except reasons you make up

yeah it's an interesting game. i think if they had waited 1-2 years, polished it some more, and released it when people's systems were faster it would have done better

but when they did release it a lot of people couldn't play it. a bit too far ahead of it's time.

>Puzzle game in single player
>RTS in multiplayer
>maps have respawning items like it's a FPS arena shooter
>enviromental hazards, special terrains only traversable with special tools/weapons
>either wait to make units or suck up enemy corpses to speed up unit production
>big variety of weapons and utility tools
>a lot of fucking around potential
Imagine top level plays if this was popular

That little dude is the backbone of your logistics network. There are small production chains, similar to Anno kind of. Your iron and coal mines produce raw resources, your trucks transport them to your smelter which uses electricity (from powerplants) + manpower (from apartments+offices) to smelt them into steel. Then you transport your steel to the Assult factory to build your tanks and cannons.

The trucks can work on automatic, or can be manually set with a route. The truck ai isn't perfect, but I found it always got the job done eventually. But I set a route up for my key production chains, which is kind of similar to anno with sea routes. Kind of, just much much simpler.

Some of the sound effects aren't great either. At some point there needs to be a new content pipeline that allows runtime loading, making it easy to mod that kind of stuff. OpenTTD is a good example of this, an old game where they basically rewrote the source and recreated a lot of the art in higher quality.

I made a YouTube video with a narration about it and posted it a few other places
There's also 2 other developers on GitHub I've been messaging with, both of which have contributed via their own repo's
I also have a discord going with a few people in it, though it's pretty dead
and on some other sites too

forgot to mention,
that pic is of a game with 20 ai's.
each ai is in its own thread, and the game uses the producer consumer design pattern which means it works fantastically on multiple cores

which to me is impressive for a 90s game
