So long as it looks anatomically plausible, it depends on the game's tone. If the game is very serious, cover bitches in steel but keep them stylish. If the game is wacky, go nuts.
I don't really care about realism because devs aren't historians and I don't want to see nothing but not that close misses pretending to be considered accurate shots.
And even if they were capable of making historical armor, that shit wasn't designed to deal with monsters and magic anyway, so it still wouldn't be "realistic".
But remember: anatomically plausible. No shit clipping into itself.
