Steam Deck OLED
2 years later and it's still unmatched.
>same price range as switch/ps5/xbox, not $1000 like the ROG/LeGo
>only handheld with an OLED screen apart from the $1000+ LeGo2, not even the Switch2 has an OLED screen
>Windows full screen mode flopped hard, turned out to literally just be the Xbox app and not at all comparable to SteamOS or a real Xbox
>touchpads
>proton
>best battery life at 15W and power efficiency out of the PC handhelds
Why buy anything other than a Deck? You can literally trade your CSGO skins and get one for free anyway.

Only the base model is still worth buying today. Especially at $320. You're a fool if you buy an OLED today. It was only worth it when it released. Wait for the deck 2 or wait for a special discount and use it to clear out your backlog.

The deck 1 was just a proof of concept. The deck 2 will be the real thing.

My reason, copy pasted from a past thread:
"Im hoping for the xbox rog ally x to release because this is the THIRD time I cannot play a new game on my shitty steam deck.
wanted to play wuchang because its level design is supposedly like ds1, and thats the only souls i actually like. but the game is just horrible on the steam deck, and before that I wanted indiana jones and the circle, and before that and it might have been the worst gaming experience I have ever witnessed, and before that I managed to eek through a pirated copy of expedition 33 that was only barely running with a fuck ton of tinkering and tweaking to the lighting system with mods.

Theres also little things like the fact that the steam deck fan is on top so I cant play under the blanket, lest it become a sauna. And I got the deck near release so I still have the 64 gb, and people say "just change the SSD!!!" but I have to buy specific accompanying tools with that. And besides the storage problems exists in this limbo where its annoying enough to want to change, but still functional enough that I dont want to bother with opening up my deck and risking bricking it.

So all of this combined. Tell me one reason I shouldn't ditch the shit deck?"

Now that Xbox has killed itself, I hope for a different handheld to break the market.

Or games that aren't garbage such as those made in UE5.

Saying that though, I played MGS Delta and Silent Hill f on Deck for two consecutive playthroughs and they both ran fine at 30fps with only some hiccups in some intensive scenes. These games were apparently struggling even on PS5 Pros according to DF, so I'm proud of this little thing.

I don't believe it. The Switch is the best selling console ever made aside from the PS2 because it allowed you to play full fat console games on a handheld that could be docked when necessary. Plenty of people used their Vita to play PS1 games and portable editions of old console games ended up being the most liked versions of those games (Persona 4 Golden comes to mind).

I understand the whole idea behind a unique "portable experience" but Steam has so many games you can still use your Deck to only play games that were originally on handhelds or even emulate those original consoles. Switch emulation, if you can escape the horrible battery life you get with some games, is still one of the best use cases for the Deck and what marketed it a lot early on (so much so that it caught Nintendo's attention and they cracked down on it).

Not him but most games nowadays don't take much power to run, the recent Digimon game for instance runs fine. It's just big (typically western) AAA games that need tons of power. Those games don't always end up on Switch either so it's fair to say there's a lot of people out there who have no interest in playing those kinds of games, and to be fair, most of them aren't really all that good either.
I really don't think anyone is going to feel bad they can't get Star Wars Outlaws to run well on Deck.

The size is literally why it works.
Every other console might do fine on stick + buttons but becomes awkward on dual-stick or especially dpad+buttons games. Steam deck is ergonomically fine on any of them, AND has the touchpads on top of that.
It is fundamentally a more usable device due to its size that allows it to play literally any type of game comfortably. No other handheld does that.

I do use the trackpads regularly though, because I'm not inbred. It's not on every game, but it's FAR more than 1% of the time. I also use the dpad and enjoy the device still being usable because they weren't too cheap to keep the sticks inline. I also like having multiple back buttons.

>If valve gives us something vita sized I'm all over it.
I'd also like that, if not Valve at least a competent company making their own version of a SteamDeck-like handheld that doesn't cook itself to death. I'd be willing to accept a slightly less powerful CPU/GPU to achieve that and reduce cost.

>>723275434
Maybe when ARM CPU's get more support for x86 games you'll have that battery life but progress for that is slow.
Coincidentally enough System76 makes a ARM desktop PC but that isn't exactly a cheap computer not to mention Linux on ARM in general also ain't quite there yet unless your willing to tolerating using Jewbuntu's experimental OS. Plus that's more of a dev computer for large corporations basically.

Anon SteamOS is basically just Arch linux with a recolored KDE.
You can download/install any distro you want and then just use big picture mode with what ever controller you have laying around right now.
I'm experiencing the SteamOS experience right now on an old Dell OptiPlex paired with a PS4 controller.
Your missing out, playing vidya on your porch on a light breezy day is comfy.

LCD deck is around 50-60% weaker( deck gets 30-40 fps in elden ring at 800p low, ally z1 extreme gets 55fps+ at 1080p)

Had a bad 60% sRGB 800p screen no vrr

Ally can run steamOS, has a 1080pvrr 100% sRGB 120hz screen and overall is lighter and cheaper on eBay.

IMO someone should buy the ally. Even when the deck LCD came out the chip was slow and midrange.

The GPD Win 5 releases in 2 months. And it pretty much shits on every handheld there is, even the GPD Win 4 (which is an absurdly powerful gaming handheld PC to begin with, and one that actually fits in your pocket).

GPD more or less created the market, and they are more or less desperate to keep their systems to be as powerful as possible. The Steam Deck is starting to show its age. It was meant to compete with the GPD Win 3, AYA NEO, and ONEXPLAYER (all three are now considered underpowered and obsolete).
