7, 8 and 10 have more player agency. You don't have to admit it, you don't have to like it. It's ok if you like 4, 6 and 9 more. But you do know that the way 7, 8 and 10 let you customize your characters and their abilities has lot more freedom than 4 and 9. 6 does let you choose which spells you learn, but in the end, it doesn't make any meaningful difference. 7 has materia, 7 has wider variety of enemy skills and commands, 8 lets you do your own thing once you understand the system and realize you can choose which abilities GFs learn and refining abilities let you reach spells you wouldn't be able to reach without wasting time and effort in vain, 10's spehere grid and equipment customization let you choose how you use your characters and which skills and archtypes they go for.

4 is on the rails, you learn the spells on level ups. You are not allowed to decide your team composition. 9, you can't do anything differently in replays. You learn the skills from equipment, the optional quests and stealing let you acquire the equipment bit earlier but if you already did that in your first playthrough, the second playthrough won't change a thing.

4, 6 and 9 are good experiences. 5, 7, 8 and 10 are better games.

I've been playing through the FF games for the first time and I'm on 7 at the moment.

7 is massively over rated, I see why it was incredible at the time but a lot of the things in game are shite like movement and camera control in the overworld. The story is fairly cookie cutter for a JRPG and it's only the setting that stands out as being a bit different (leaning into sci-fi vs fantasy). the materia system is cool but the summons have zero consequence to getting them with little if any story explanation vs 4, 5 or 6 and the story itself is weaker than 6 or maybe even 4. The music is top tier but I still think a cut below 4 and 6 in terms of quality. Sephiroth isn't as iconic as people think, he's just a bitch with zero to no motivations apart from "muh test tube mommy... i am become edge..." and the story is trying too hard to be dark when it doesn't quite match 2's constant loss, 4's you are the evil or 6's chaotic evil bastard

I honestly don't like FF6 strictly because I don't like the main characters especially Terra and her Must Find Love bullshit subplot. That is not interesting in the least and worse they went with the worst idea ever, female characters becomes a spinster and adopts random little orphan shits who no one cares about. Basically the same bullshit that Street Fighter did to Chun Li, an attractive woman simply can't find a man so she adopts a little shit no one cares about.

And Celes is extremely lackluster as a character. The only reason people pretend she's great is she's supposed to be hot but she's not beating Samus as far as gaming blondes go. And so what if she's one of the good generals of the Empire so was General Leo. And I don't care for her wishy washy love story with Locke who is a trash character.

The only character I actually liked in this game's story is Edgar and I would argue that he was underutilized in the narrative of the story. The other remaining characters were meh.

5 mogs every other entry in the franchise, except maybe Tactics on that regard. And that a big part of FF's appeal is precisely the job system, that doesn't excuse those which don't have it. Yes, that goes for 6, but it also goes for the ones your pretentious ass is trying to champion, which are most likely 7 and 8.

What's even the point of having 22 classes if you don't need any of them to beat the game?
Not to mention that you can't be too creative with it because the ABP requirements are so high that at best you can do is maybe finish one class per character before the game ends. Unless ofc you grind your ass off, non-stop farming ABP, but then again what is point of farming when the game is so easy.
It feels like there is a whole chapter of the game missing, where you could finally go all out, instead of nerfing yourself on how to not one-shot every boss by accident.
Also despite having muh 22 classes the white mage is still most broken just like in every other FF game. While berserk is worse then not picking class at all. The balance is all over the place.
So much for the "muh perfect job system".

I genuinely believe that ppl are so hung up on muh job system when talking about FF5 is because there is really nothing else worth mentioning about the game.
The plot is basically generic harem isekai, where plain NEET MC randomly becomes chosen and gets harem of 3 bitches for free to defeat le evil lord. The end. (At least that explains why nips like it, lol)
