I bought it. it's neat. it's terraria+rimworld+diablo. it takes the ideas from those games and mashes them all up and it works out pretty well
still, kinda feels like the game doesn't have an identity. it really wants to be all those games but doesn't settle on a niche. it's like, instead of getting a gourmet meal at a nice restaurant, you go to the buffet and just get a little of everything

There is like half a dozen biomes or so, you go down caves, fights bosses (preferably in order), get loot, then do it all again with deep caves until it finally turns into a budget arpg with a map device, new content and increasingly more dangerous modifiers.
I got around 60 hours of playtime out of it during early access but most of it was spent building and modifying my settlement instead of focusing on progressing the main quest or grinding gear.

It's a pretty standard open world survival crafting game in 2D. Casual difficulty, easy to pick up and put down, a little thin in content.
Building villages is fun, but they need more floor and wall choices. I like gearing my villagers and taking my NPC army to war.

Played it a bit. It uses terraria "summon item" system. While it's fine for easier bosses i really cannot be fucked to farm summon stuff in order to lose it all and be stuck in progression. Either make it infinite use or give us alternative way to summon boss.

Are settler deaths brutal where it would be punishing if Terraria NPCs were to permanently die or are they like Rimworld pawns where you can constantly replace them with the only consequence being time lost?

Being able to designate a dumping chest and have NPCs haul everything to specific chests is really nice.
Also can you get wool from wild animals? Or is it only for tamed? I'm just starting out.

On casual settings the NPCs just get knocked out. On hard and higher, they die, but it seems like NPCs will will arrive at your settlement periodically, and there are NPC settlements where I think you can recruit people based on what I'm gathering so far.
If they die and you gave them good equipment, that would be a consequence as well I assume. There is a "Revive NPCs" potion, dunno if that works for death though.

you can recruit NPCs from settlements or wherever else you find them. I've recruited ones in the caves, from settlements, and the ones who were just passing through. there's a good supply. if you need an animal keeper though, or another specialization, you might have to do some searching and get a little lucky
also if your settlers get KO'd you can rez them with the potion, but I'm playing on classic. I think they die for real on the harder difficulties

I have over 90 hours played on it, it's fun but as someone said it's very hybrid based and you may not be fulfilled with the thing you like most about it. Also playing a melee build is literally gimping yourself against some bosses.

It's more comparable to top-down Terraria with a slightly larger focus on settlement building and better character build options (eventually). NPC Management is more in-depth than Elin, and Elin is closer to a traditional RPG experience as far as stat autism and leveling and all that. The only real thing they have in common is settlement building, but even that is pretty incomparable.

I played through it like at 0.6 I think and its pretty fun but needed more village building features and more threats like raids, i like the rimworld style of the village and some the weapons progression is very like terriaria, I had the necromancer laser wand and it was pretty fun multiplayer

Id like it if it had bigger focus on building towns to support expeditions to harder dungeon areas or to fight raids

There are raids. I'm not sure how much you need to beef up your town in order to "support" harder dungeons but I very much enjoy having them do the menial tasks while I do the fun stuff. I geared up a dude and took him with me to the second boss and I was pretty happy with the results.

First equipment I crafted is the sapphire rod. Magic, at least this early, seems pretty good. Free heals on this rod are nice too. I take it once you defeat the first boss, it starts unlocking more tiers of items and locations and such? I noticed for instance that I can't mine the biome walls of the swamp caves.

You can place structures from the bag too, so I don't know why you can't consume from it as well. At least there's hotkeys for quick eat/potion use. The tutorial explains everything you need to do as far as reaching the first boss (which you can technically in seconds after starting), although the settlement management might be intimidating. You can designate work (like hauling, farming, cutting trees, hunting) and give them priorities, and also set what storage is used for what kind of items, etc. Set beds, set specific orders, crafting orders, etc.
In fact the first thing I recommend to anyone new is setting up at least 5 storage chests and 1 dumping chest that NPCs will auto-sort items from.

The chests aren't that big that's for sure, you'd definitely need more than one or two. The sorting system works through list filter that once you enable it, the villager will automatically store items adhering to the rules you set up for your chests. Think Rimworld storage zones.
I don't know how it is in Magic Storage so unfortunately I can't make comparisons for you there.

Just about. You can set up chest organisation, farming, animal breeding and crafting. You still have to go out and gather most materials, but some villagers can do that too, for example you can pay miners to go on ore expeditions. I think you just need to encounter the ore once and then you can send them. I was getting Tungsten earlier than intended because of that which was cool

You can have 1 dump chest and set all the items to restricted. Then you can have another 14ish chests, a couple per category of item, and the NPCs will automatically sort it. You also have a button that just autodumps your inventory into the chests around you that hold the same item, which is useful for early game. Ideally, when you've explored and have enough resources to make a real base you'll also design this storage room around your crafting room, because the workbenches let you use items from chests within a certain distance.

Grab the sprint boots in the starting home where the Elder lives. Bind your heal/food/potion hotkeys. Don't forget to talk to the Elder to accept the boss missions and get the quest rewards for pouches.

The problem with Core Keeper is the equipment is all painfully bland and the grindy skill system incentivizes you to stick with one thing. As soon as you get a weapon with crit on it you just upgrade that through the rest of the game. The obvious comparison is Terraria and in that game there's so much variety in what weapons actually do that you can end up completely changing your build based on a single weapon you randomly find and there's no drawback to this because you're not being punished by switching to a weapon you have little to no skill growth in.

How is Necesse in this regard? Are all of the swords the same thing except with gradually bigger numbers? Are there any systems which punish experimentation?

It's far closer to Terraria where 'builds' are actually just items you equip and can freely swap between sets with a click of a button. There's no XP/Stat growth. Just items.

There's definitely unique weapons that I've found like a Katana that has a charge attack. Each subsequent hit makes the charge faster and faster and you do a huge dash which is fantastic for bosses since dodging is essential. On the other hand I don't know if there's any way to upgrade an item past its base stats which means eventually my katana will get oudated by whatever OP shit I find later. (unless I'm wrong and you can upgrade earlier gear)
The basic enchantment system is just minor stuff like +10% damage. It doesn't touch base stats.

The game is pretty good, I've probably clocked hundreds of hours in it, and I've recently started playing with friends.
It's like Terraria without the dev being a massive angry autist so it's actually fun.
Kinda wish town automation was a bit better, it's really difficult to get gears to villagers as the game progresses and raids quickly devolve back into (You) vs raiders because they'll just delete your villagers. Haven't tried bringing them with me yet.
It could also use some better character customization rather than the "genderless" dude with a low pitched grunt.

If you want coins just set up a big forestry area and sell wood. Floor tiles also sell for a decent amount if you have excess stone.

Finally going to start this game. Been waiting for years for 1.0.

I need to go to sleep and I will start this game in earnest tomorrow so I hope to see a thread then

Core keeper didn't exist in any capacity until a couple years after Necesse entered early access. My mileage has been way better with Necesse. There's a lot more to do, and a lot more gameplay depth than Snore Keeper has, especially with the base building (I do like both games, but Necesse is better overall).

There are two factors that increase their mood bonuses: size of the room and how much furniture there is. You can technically make a room large enough to have a bed and nothing else but then you'll have +0 in both. A 3x4 room with some furniture already gives a +20-30. I'm not sure how much happiness level affects hauling speed but wizards seem to enchant items better at 100.
