Pokemon before Switch used to consistently be the games with the highest production value on every system they were on. Hands down. That's why you never saw anyone complaining about the graphics until the Switch games. Obviously they've aged now, but at the time the 3DS games were the absolute pinnacle of what the system was capable of.
I don't know why Gamefreak gave up when they started making games for Switch, but they weren't always like this.

The last one I played was S/M and I dropped the series because both it and X/Y+ORAS were absolute braindead Fisher-Price games that played themselves, so thoughtlessly easy playing them felt pointless. Because its not just that the graphics aren't good, it's that they're so staggeringly bad that they actively detract from the overall experience.
