I mean does the recharge matter if the batteries last for weeks nowadays? My headset lasts an entire month easily, once at low charge it tells me to recharge it, I just plop it in my phone charger overnight and done, got another month of charge.

My mouse has its own dock, I can plop it there every week or so. Same for my controller

Wireless headphones will always have a shelf life whether it be because of the battery eventually dying or from the wireless method being used becoming outdated or unsupported. A wired headset has much better longevity and a good quality headset will basically last forever (ive had the same pair for over 8 years now)

All of my wired headsets eventually stopped working because the cable had some sort of malfunction and one of the sides would start working depending on the chord's position until it was unbearable.

No one gets "tired out" of moving the chord or whatever. But if you play competitive games like FPS or OSRS or whatever, you need to make precise movements with your mouse and the chord's inconsistent drag can throw you off. Especially because depending on your chord setup the drag to the left is not the same as the drag to the right, so basically you need a way more complex muscle memory to memorize how much force you need to move your cursor across the screen. Only after getting a wireless mouse do you realize how much simpler it makes the entire muscle memory process.

I also thought the chord was not a factor until I used wireless

Also funny enough what clicked for me (pun not intended) was learning how anchors work. What makes them work isn't the anchor itself, it's the fucking chain. Then I realized "holy shit mouses are like this".
Anonymous No.723524692 [Report]
>>723524614
what makes them work is the anchor itself attaching to the sea floor

So you're counting the materials used to make the wires against the wired keyboard, but not the batteries that the wireless one needs in order to operate? Out of sight, out of mind, amirite?
Also the chemical charge-discharge cycle of batteries is inherently more lossy than just supplying the appliance with the power it needs directly, so that's extra energy wasted by a wireless appliance.
Anonymous No.723525074 [Report] >>723525649
>>723524917
This is an easily solved problem, in the future we can make batteries swappable. Also the average consumer wired headphone does not last more than 5 years and that's what a wireless headphone easily lasts, but when you discard it there's no cable to kill sea turtles

>in the future we can make batteries swappable
So? Making those batteries still requires non-renewable resources. You're essentially just saying that because this necessary fuel component can be taken out of the device and replaced with a new one, the device itself is environmentally friendly. Using the same argument, couldn't you say that traditional ICE powered cars are environmentally friendly? After all the pollution doesn't come from any part of the car itself, just the fuel which is replaceable.
No, you have to account for the production and lifecycle of the batteries used to power that device to determine how environmentally friendly it actually is. Otherwise you're just sweeping the problem under the rug.

Yes but not with 100% efficiency. You can't just take a dead battery and make a new battery with the same capacity out of its materials without adding anything else. And the recycling process itself also takes energy.
Nothing is free, all of these effects add up.
And if you want to use recycling as an argument, guess what? The extra wires of a wired keyboard can be recycled. Fancy, that.
