Is what /vr/ faggots tell me. But the reality is that most of old games are even shittier than modern games, people only talk about the literal handful that are good.

Take classic arena shooters for example (boomer shooters for all the zoomeroids in the chat). If we're talking exclusively about old games from that era, there's like 5 good, worthwhile games in there at most (mods and expansion packs don't count), like Quake or Duke Nukum 3D. And the rest are shit games like Tekwar or Extreme Paintbrawl that are not worth playing. This is just one of the many examples.
/vr/ faggots never have an answer to this, which is curious. Probably because they don't play games either.

if you know what you're looking for you can find it. recently got into crisis force, an obscure japan only shmup made by konami for the famicom. game is beautiful and the gameplay and soundtrack is amazing. and its a random game no one's ever heard of. guaranteed its better than anything in the reddit ufo 50 collection. and that's just one example out of thousands of potential games

Nobody just says, "read sci-fi" or you'll be at the library skimming through fucking nickel-bin garbage paperbacks wondering why anyone would ever read this genre. They give you a good series or an author to look up.

The majority of video games to ever exist are horrible. From the Commodore 64 up through the Wii, the ratio of shit games to good games is somewhere around 20:1. Probably even higher for the Atari 2600/7800 and NES. Standards were low and profits were high in the early days. If you could get a game on store shelves back then it would sell regardless of quality.
