And these aren’t some charming old school sprites or pixels either - these are just genuinely shitty basic renders from the early 2000s. It’s genuinely baffling how they didn’t accidentally do better. This isn’t just about graphics - it’s an entire lack of art direction in general.

What’s more, I can’t believe people are rewarding this nonsense. If you buy and support this game, they’ll realize they don’t have to actually make good games and they can continue pushing out titles that look like Wii shovelware bargain bin, and it doesn’t matter because their fans won’t ever punish them for releasing a terrible game.

I played through the game and had fun with the new combat system. It could use some tuning so that combat in narrow areas isn't so awkward, but outside of that it was pretty good. Real talk, what they need to do is give Pokemon the Kingdom Hearts battle system: you control the pokemon and its Speed onfluences both your movement speed and the ATB cooldown of your attacks. You navigate menus in realtine like KH for your pokemon's skills and trainer items.

My theory is that the reason it came out so shit is precisely because it had such a massive budget and is such a flagship franchise. There's probably layers and layers and layers of middle managers and money men constantly meddling with it. There's hundreds of people getting paid a salary for the game, but the actual work is only being done by like 20 overworked dudes. Corporate bloat is a hell of a drug.
