Xbox og sold more than the GC worldwide and it manage to turn Halo into the most successful exclusive in the world.
360 sold more than the ps3 during a big portion of their generation, only falling behind around the 2010.

Because MS was paying for them to make games on the console to try and make an entry in the nip market but japs hated the console, at some point it was only selling like 100 units a month so they eventually pulled the plug. One of the biggest mistakes MS made was having stupid names for their consoles after the 360.
Nobody even knew what an Xbox One was or if an Series S came before or after.
Completely fumbled everything.

You can see it even in during the 360 days, early on it still had some of that og Xbox soul but as time went on they turned it into just another generic multimedia center filled with "apps" and ads and never steered away.

The huge PS2 numbers are mostly just because Sony never stopped PS2 production and kept pushing consoles to turd world markets while MS was really quick to end it, to try and get to next-gen before everyone else.

It's still my favorite console. It had the best versions of multiplats, and it had the best shooters. If you had a shitty pc, Xbox was the console to have. The Doom 3 and Half Life 2 ports were great. Chronicles of Riddick was also top tier.

No innovations for the last 2 console generations. OG xbox was a start but it had Halo, a hard drive, and had crude online play. 360 had a head start and refined the online play years before the competition had any online systems plus good downloadable games through xbox live arcade. Xbone tried to make kinect their innovation but everyone rejected it, also the xbone launch debacle didn't help and this generation tried to push gamepass but it didn't take over gaming like microsoft thought it would

#1 The gamepad couldn't be used as a DVD remote, had to buy the DVD player adapter separately, PS2 had it built in, thus was the easier sell.

#2 no legacy franchises to bring people over, when the Xbox came out the playstation had all the big franchises like final fantasy, tekken, Metal Gear Solid, and the new king of vidya GTA, which managed to keep 1 year exclusivity on PS2 before xbox ports.

Absolutely no regrets.

Xbox had the best looking and running multi plat releases, the most stable online, and a ton of great weird titles. PS2 was for sports and racing slop and like 2 good square enix games.

Microsoft's stated goal with the original Xbox was to penetrate the hardcore gamer market, outselling Nintendo was a bonus. They knew capturing the hardcore market would create good word of mouth and it worked.

Wii hasn't forced waggle since like 2008. The Classic Controller was out and even Nintendo exclusives like Mario Kart and Smash Bros allowed for multiple controller options. The "waggle fad" lasted for like a year tops, outside of a few circumstances here and there like Red Steel 2, Wii Sports Resort and Skyward Sword. You could play like 90% of Wii games like a normal person from 2008 onwards.

The original xbox succeded in getting in gaining some market share. The 360 absolutely raped until sony dropped the prices and went hard on exclusives. Even in ps centric nations of their time like weren't buying until near late years. Its all the good will and exclusives that gave them next gen without effort.
The original xbox is the console to play most games of its generation. 480p support and proper 5.1 surround was why it was usually the "rich boy" console.

I think the concept behind the serie x and s at first was pretty interesting, two consoles that are compatible yet also with different specs depending on the budget, and for a little time, the series s genuinely was a really good deal with it's low price for gamers who could not afford more expensive things.
