>People are chatting in VC
>Comment to one joke on text chat
>"lol, anon turn the mic on"
>Be ESL
>Have to lie my mic is broken
It's kinda hard to play multiplayer vidya with strangers when my english is absolute ass and my accent is even worse. Been bullied and teased about both multiple times online.
I almost wanna use AI voicechanger to sound more american so I can communicate with people in vidya.
Has any other ESL anons problem in multiplayer game voice chats?
And yeah I know that being esl on /v/ is just asking for trouble, but I wanted to make this thread anyway.

You're in your own head about this anon. I've had some great times on tf2 yukking it up with ESLs.

I'm from European region but was on murican community server because EU servers are often empty.
Americans are quite social, but you don't really wanna let them know you're esl thirdie. It rarely ends well.

I have quite many negative experiences with vc. Got kicked few times in TF2 alone. These days especially I don't wanna try my luck in vc as my country isn't really liked by Americans.

I don't like using voicechat in general, but when I feel like giving info or chatting I just speak without trying to mask my accent. When someone speaks my language with strong accent or some grammatic errors I don't think badly of that person, bc I understand how complex and confusing my language is, so I expect same level of patience from foreigners.

Well yeah, but you see what /v/ thinks of ESLs. It makes it impossible to join any collabs(musical for example, but also king/queen threads if it's something where your ESL shows).
I personally don't mind if someone speaks my language poorly, because they are trying. But when it comes to English, all the English speaking people expect that you a have good level of english, don't have an annoying accenr, and that you preferably aren't from a third-world country.
Kinda sucks that I don't pass any of those.
I'm happy if you don't have that many shit experiences, but for me it's coinflip at best if I shoukd turn on the mic

The only countries I can think of that might be disliked by Americans that are EU region are Russia and Israel. Do people mock your accent?

>The only countries I can think of that might be disliked by Americans that are EU region are Russia and Israel
Well Americans consider my country to be part of Russia. But I was under the impression that USA likes Russia. At least the presidents get along well and when Ukraine war started I saw lots of Americans be on Russia's side and against Ukraine. Strange to think Americans would dislike Russia.
>Do people mock your accent?
Yes. And my english skills in general(And the reason should be more than obvious when you read my posts).

If you are from a more "accepted" country, I'm sure that helps when interacting with native english speakers.
But otherwise it's pretty grim.

>when Ukraine war started I saw lots of Americans be on Russia's side and against Ukraine.
You absolutely did not see genuine people rooting for Russia. The only people on Russia's side when the war started were contrarians or people who thought it would be over in a few days and were dickriding the Russian military for how they take what they want and love the T90s and stuff like that. After a few months then it was people who could not understand that sending money to Ukraine doesn't mean literal bags of cash but instead weaponry that is already produced so they got pissed Biden was sending money to them.

Something like 70% or 80% of Americans were for defending Ukraine and stopping Russia at the start of the war based on census data. Then it took a solid year or two of sending stuff to Ukraine and the war not ending on either side before that dropped to 60% and that was solely because of people being pissed at how much we were spending on sending stuff to Ukraine (Which I must reiterate most people think we're sending bags of cash, not already earmarked weaponry) instead of investing into our country. Nowadays it's still hovering at like 56% if I remember right, but the point is that most people do not like Russia here and Zelensky in general has been getting more support compared to prior to the election when the rhetoric on spending was so high.
>At least the presidents get along well
They really don't. Putin keeps presenting ultimatums or lying straight to Trump's face and then Trump gets pissed off. He's also outright asked his aides if Putin is playing him at one point. He's very clearly cordial but he's getting tired of Putin lying to him over and over or refusing to help a deal get made with Ukraine even though Putin will never admit to any sort of deal with Zelensky because it legitimizes Ukraine as being its own country led or influenced by someone else other than Russia which he refuses to accept.

Live in another country. You will not lose your accent without living in another country as it happens through years of being immersed in that country and speaking the language with the people daily. Simple example is Australians who move to America who will slowly shift to a Midwestern neutral accent mixed with an Australian one but many words still cause accents to happen. Another example is Americans moving to the UK who after a few years will start speaking from the region they're in to a degree and not neutral anymore.

It's not really something you can consciously change or stop. The best you can do is actively try and pronounce words correctly instead of with your language's accent which will help in understanding you even through a thick accent. An example I can think of offhand is the Baltics not having a W in their language so they use Vs. So instead of www.website.com they say "veh veh veh . vebsite . com". I had a cousin come over to the US a couple weeks ago and she called it "Valmart" instead of "Walmart".

I just remember many American influencers like Tim Pool saying Ukraine is enemy of USA etc. and he's a centrist if I remember right. I don't follow them but have seen enough clips. Same with many Americans online I talked with. There was lots of talk about Ukrainian bio labs spreading corona to Russia, and pic rel stuff as well shared by Americans.
It is what it is. I got good enough picture about American opinion on the whole thing and see less and less criticism towards Russia from America, Zelensky didn't get much help from the recent visit to Trump either. I guess he's more busy with Gaza project with Israel.

You probably just saw contrarians. The only people talking about biolabs past the first week were Russians and said contrarians since it was very quickly found out every country has biolabs across the planet and it's nothing special. That was at the same Russia released those Sims 3 images that became a meme too. Don't take stock in a lot of what you see about the Ukraine war online because it truly is contrarians for the most part and every time they do polls it's well above 50% approval for it even if it's not as high as it was in the first year.

I don't hear much bad from people around Europe(except Sweden but we fight all the time, it's just love).

>>723594912

I hear from Americans often that we're a commie shithole etc. plus the Charlie Kirk comment on us being culturally Russian and we shouldn't join NATO etc. which just spread that kind of stuff more.
And Kirk was quite important person over there, EU was asked to keep a moment of silence for him.

>>723594959
I don't consider my country 3rd world but we are on American website so I use terms I hear from Americans here and elsewhere. It's easier to skip the whole "your country is x/y/z" straight away.

with all due respect, it might be better for you to stop looking about foreign politics on the internet. It's all just a tug of war to get people to pick a side. Finns are cool. Have a nice life, bye.

Oh, don't worry too about it. To me it isn't about "us vs them" kind of stuff as that is bit too American attitude for my tastes. Some political stuff is hard to avoid when it's in the news, rest I hear from talking with people. I'm not necessarily angeru about muricans not liking us, that would be childish. They have their reasons, heard that wellfare, healthcare, green policirs, and public transit stuff especially are things they don't like. They are allowed to think what they want.
You have a nice life too. Bye bye.

>because they are trying
Exactly, people who learn your language are genuinely interested in learning it and likely appreciate your culture because they need to have things that make them interested in learning it. There's also not that many of them. English is so ubiquitous that ESLs learn it just to be practical and they flood the internet so native speakers have to deal with them constantly.
