The fact it played in cinemas does not make it for adults lmao quite the opposite. The difference was that they were made for families, so themes could be a little more mature not to make the parents fall asleep, but just barely more mature.
Nowadays parents do not participate (unless it's childless manchildren) and entertainment is used to separate the children from the parents so they can stop pestering them, hence they can be more self-aware.
