As the other anon says, Janice is basically a female version of Tony in a lot of her behavior. She's selfish, egotistical, miserable, vindictive, spiteful, fat, and manipulative. But, so is almost everyone else in the family that was raised by Livia and Johnny Boy. The exception being their third child Barbara who moved away and didn't suffer from the same insanity as the rest of her siblings and parents.

The differences between Tony and Janice, aside from surface level stuff like her being a former hippy, was that Janice was capable of change. Technically, everyone always is, but they have to *want* it. Tony didn't. The Sopranos is six seasons of Tony choosing not to become a better person because that would require him to change the behavior that he benefits from. Janice was actually made better by hooking up with Bobby (and by killing Richie as well, symbolically burying her past.)

He becomes their mother more than she did and he hates himself and her for it. That's why Tony sabotages her after she attends anger management and therapy, because she's bettering herself (something he sees himself as being incapable of). Just like he sabotages Christopher when he is attempting true sobriety.

She knew exactly what would happen if she did, Tony would go find the rapist and kill him. It would've made her feel good to get her revenge, but it wouldn't have been "the right thing to do" since we're supposed to live in a civilized world with law and order.

Because it would give Tony power over her. Zoomers skip over the therapy scenes and think they're boring, but the whole point is that Melfi is the one person Tony couldn't get control over and wreck in the process. Throughout the series, Tony eventually dominates the people he would respect and listen to, because he cant handle being vulnerable or weak, he's greedy. Melfi and Tony interact because its therapy, but throughout the whole show, Melfi is essentially Tony's advisor and all the advice she gives him goes right to benefiting him in the Mafia. I think there are even a few times where he'll blow off things that she said to him, but you'll hear him use those very same lines on his fellow mobsters.
Melfi is self-aware that she's being had by Tony, but her own curiosity and interest in what goes on in the mob keeps her from dropping him as a patient. Towards the very end, she demonstrates that she ultimately still has control and drops him as a patient and Tony subsequently dies. Its almost like Melfi was carrying him through his trade in the first place.

Every action we take, no matter how great the genetic or environmental disposition may be, is on us. We make the call, every time. The human capacity for self delusion is infinite. We have all seen it in a myriad of ways. Why do people do that? Because it's more comfortable. Change is inherently uncomfortable, even more so when it involves taking away someone's mental safety net.

Tony is so much like my father that it's borderline comical. Tony doesn't change for the same reason my dad didn't, it would have stopped him from using his favorite copes to excuse his poor behavior of the past, present, and future. That's all. Fundamentally, people lie to avoid punishment and judgement from others; they lie to themselves for the same reason, to avoid judgement from the self. Both are uncomfortable but you can only remove yourself from one of the two because the other is yourself.

Very observant, the sacred and the propane!

Genuine advice:
Get off of internet for 48 hours.
If you're a gooner, limit yourself to one time a day and don't use porn.
Go for a walk every day, preferably in nature. Even a small park is good if you live in city.
Eat in a small local cafe/restaurant.
And keep diary, physical preferably. Write your thoughts and wants there, no matter what it is.

Internet is brainrot dopamine overdose machine these days.
Your brain is addicted.
You don't need internet. Your patents didn't need, nor grand patents.

>watch season 1, it's alright
>season 2 starts terrible, so i drop it 4 or 5 episodes in
>resume it one year later, nothing special
>season 3 is the best so far, binge it in one week
>season 4 starts mediocre
>strongly consider dropping it after the utterly pointless Christopher Columbus episode
>keep watching, get boring by the minute
>finally drop it completely after the ep. that ends with Tony comforting a sick horse, and then a small goat shows up (this was nice, so i drop it with a smile).

Shit I didnt like:
>Tony's psyquiatrist becomes a fucking Looney Toons character, keeping her in the show becomes so pointless that the writers have her graped for absolutely no reason just to give her a motive to get screentime
>Every single psyquiatrist in the show is a cartoon version of her patient (Janice's shrink is a hippie like her, Meadow's only encourages her to keep on being a spoiled brat)
>Anthony Jr. is the most pointless character ever, but they never get rid of him (by sending him to military school for example) because he is a free excuse to waste the audience's time.
>Pauly carries the show by himself most of the time and gets sent to the can for no reason in S4.
Overall, the show just gets worse with every season. Lots of pointless characters and subplots. It has its moments, but I dont think im ever watching season 5 or 6. Breaking Bad, on the other hand, was great from beginning to ending, no pointless characters or moments at all.

>no pointless characters or moments at all.
this is the best part of this bait, because even actual breaking bad fans acknowledge that the season 2 ending is retarded

I live by a busy street. There’s no nature anywhere near me. Go fuck yourself. Where am I supposed to walk to? There’s nothing to do outside that’s free or cheap.

The issue is that you went into the show expecting an escalation when what the show is instead is a degradation after the climax of season 1.
The intention of the show is to watch a group of funny charismatic crooks slowly degrade (as in showing their true selves) into bigger and bigger pieces of shit, dragging others down with them before they die off, as the 2000s shifts in culture kill the classical mob lifestyle.
You didn't get that far but there is an entire arc where Tony sells off a local business wholesale that pays him rent so that a Jamba Juice can move in, which is so on the nose that its only surpassed by this scene https://youtu.be/0cQOej9nuho

Your meant to revel is the absurdity of the decay which isn't what you were looking for.

I don't really have a thing for Mediterranean women at all, and I really don't like Italians (I find them obnoxious like the Irish), and older women don't interest me, and I don't like gussied up princesses or bimbos for the most part, but the Sopranos has a few women who or more than one (or all) and they get me going. By all rights she shouldn't do anything for me, but Edie Falco is a fox so often over the course of the show. Oh my god what I wouldn't do to prime bimbo'd out Drea de Matteo.
