Heather deserved a longer game.

I played through 1-3. I tried playing 4 twice and each time I was turned off by the combat. Tank controls with a fixed camera was fine for me but something about 4's gameplay really turned me away. I will never touch the remakes and I stand by the fact that they never needed remakes. Team Silent sacrificed much of their time and energy into these games, the guy who animated the cutscenes for Silent Hill 1 literally slept at the office, pain-stakingly animating everything by hand and rendering it with all the computers they had at night. The remakes are made by people who think they can do better and who do not understand the philosophy behind Team Silent's reasoning. It genuinely makes me upset that such an interesting and wonderful IP is being raped by its owners and handed to people who completely are detached from the original perspective of the creators. Team Silent was inspired by David Lynch and Silent Hill is the product of their fascination of America with Japanese horror tied into it. You cannot replicate that. What a shame.

Haunting is maybe an over-simplification. It's not that there are ghosts or monsters per se, but the fact you can't know if there could be is a source of anxiety. The larger and more convoluted the space with more nooks and crannies for things to slip in from, the more worrying it is.

In many ways the otherworld is much like the backrooms and other liminal brainrot in this regard, but with an additional layer of decay and rot. They're still based on environments that have become unfamiliar and foreboding as their context has been divorced from them.

As for the zoomers; it just got popular for them from the shared experience of urban decay (initially) and then being fashionable (most of them now).
