Drop in this case means letting the mag drop out of the firearm, like it's designed to do. Retention of empty mags was not a consideration when the terminology was decided upon.

Am I the only anon on this board playing Battlefield 6 on console, or with a controller, who is kinda sad that the rumble during reload animations is gone now?
Sure, you get a lot of tactile feedback from other things in the game, so it's not a huge deal, but it feels somewhat odd how the reload one is gone when every BF from 4 up to now had it

That depends on the situation. Taking time to stow the mag in an active firefight, in a non-fortified or entrenched position is just wasting precious moments of your shortening life.

It's kinda crazy to me that everyone talks about the decline in Fallout writing but almost no one talks how the itemization went from "go to a crazy pre-war lab to loot a cool plasma gun" and "add a new mag to your rifle for it to have more boolits" to "hunt a legendary monster for a chance to get a regular shotgun which never needs to reload because fuck you no explanation given".

I mean, random loot IS fun, but that's so far removed from the origin of the series, like it's something you expect to see in a spin-off.

Because after Skyrim blew the fuck up Bethesda decided the future of the Skyrim/Fallout franchise was just heavily systemic sandbox gameplay, which is why Fallout 4 was full of crafting nonsense and its streamlined SPECIAL/perks system, and what hasn't been said about Starfield?
So a lot of itemizaiton basically just degraded into grinding shit to build stronger wackier shit. Not that that didn't exist in prior Elder Scrolls games, but more that it was emphasized for the sake of the appearance of mechanical depth.

As an aside it's probably also the biggest thing intentionally/unintentionally hanging over Obsidian's neck no matter the actual quality of their games; people basically want New Vegas-level writing but with Fallout 4/Skyrim gameplay and romances.

I mean, MW was "heavily systemic" with its spell crafting and enchanting mechanics. It's just that while those mechanics feel right at home in a fantasy game, where you can say "well you trap a powerful demon's soul in a gem and then imbue your weapon with it so it can paralyze enemies" or w/e, and it feels right at home and actually enhances your lore, in a (supposedly) sci-fi game such mechanics feel immershun-breaking.

Looked it up a bit more. It seems the original A1 models DO have a last round open bolt, but not a bolt catch, as such you have to manually pull the release handle as it's depicted in the game.
New models do have a bolt release, though there's some additional tomfuckery about different models in regards to that too due to regional regulations that I didn't look too much into.

They insist upon themselves and I hate the voice it gave to its fanboys becuase they were treated to a well made product instead of the yearly slop. Instead of judging games on whether theyre fun or not its now based off who's dev teams were more autistic with their animations. Theyve become the new graphics fags and need to let you know a game is subpar becuase the handgun reloads dosent show the tactical cock sweat from your gloves when you rack the slide back. Im not against higher quality animations but when they're put in to sell subpar/boring games it urks the hell out of me.

Releases the bolt. The bolt pushes a round into the chamber. On some guns it's locked open when the last bullet is fired and in something like an AR, you have to push a button on the side to release it once you've swapped magazines. Slapping it looks cool

Might as well go ham with the most tacticool flair possible. But while it was fine on one or two occasions, over time, the fad has become way too tryhard for me. I've now prefer a more subdued, flawed but competent kind of animations like the older CoD games did.

They realized they made all the money they could off of PCVR users, so they added crossplay to the PlayStation version of the game, which didn’t support mods, and effectively banned all mods in the game. This basically killed it overnight, the playerbase fell off the face of the Earth on PC, and surprise surprise the PlayStation VR players weren’t nearly as committed to the game. People sold it as VR counterstrike, but it was always VR Gmod, and Gmod without mods is completely pointless.

Broadly true, but there have been some interesting exceptions. The M16, as issued for the Vietnam war, was designed with an intentionally disposable magazine. then it turned out local commanders assumed that the magazines were expensive, because the magazines on the M-14 had been expensive, so they started requiring soldiers to check them in and check them out, and unlike the M14 magazines, armorers were not given any instructions to maintain the M16 magazines, because they were not expected to be reused. So the mags gradually got dirtier and dirtier until they stopped working, one of the many issues unrelated to the actual design of the M16 that gave it an initially bad reputation.

This is a complete non-sequiter, driven by your own biases, other VR games have not seen remotely comparable player count drops. Pavlov had a top 24 hour peak of 17,629 and a 24 hour peak of 198 today. Gorilla Tag had a top 24 hour playercount of 2,491 and a 24 hour peak of 1,100 today. Multiple VR exclusive titles on Steam have a 24 hour player account above 1000 right now, I have no idea why you’re suggesting that Pavlov’s catastrophic fall off is a feature of the entire niche, when clearly that game was hit way harder than it’s contemporaries.

This was colt's excuse, in reality they just had shitty springs and weak feed lips that would deform with normal handling.

They were also issued with completely different ammo to the trials rifles which increased the cyclic rate by ~200rpm and fouled way more so there were innately more feed and extraction issues due to the rifle operating way out of spec.

I mean, there's a reason why everyone is copying them. Animations before didn't have that much personality so their animations revolutionized military FPS shooters. As for the animations themselves, I think they are way too exaggerated in some cases. As if the soldier is suffering from Parkinson's disease. A healthy middle line exists, but where? I don't know.

It wasn't "for some reason". Bank robberies peaked in LA when the police were disarmed en masse after the rodney king riots, then in 1995 they increased the sentances for armed robbery, and then the robbers stopped because they were being slapped with 20 years.

Turns out, when you defund the police, crime increases, and then when you arrest criminals, crime decreases. 30 years later and California still hasn't figured this out for some reason...

Video games have done this effectively with grenades for years, you can do the same thing with guns without any actual risk of hearing loss. You just duck the main audio. Every time the gun fires, it should sidechain the main audio stream of the game like a fucking EDM kick drum. This is all you really need to sell "loudness", it doesn't actually need to be LOUD it just needs to drown out everything else.

Unreal 5 and RE engine have it to some extent, I know Dragon's Dogma does because sounds are atenuated/muffled when they're coming from behind a wall or if you're indoors in like a cave you can hear stuff happening outside echoing into the cave/dungeon
Source 2 has it as well, used very well in HL Alyx
Not sure how to use in user maps though, there's an 'automatic' mode but you can also export the map geo to obj or something for finer control or something, not really looked too much into it

Tech has existed for years for computing accurate filtering and reverberations for any arbitrary space, provided the space is static. Where it gets tricky is when you have to account for how the sound source moves around that space, and application of the effect in real time (it's POSSIBLE to do convolution in real-time but it's not fun). You can also do it parametrically pretty easily and usually the effect is good enough. But that's why geo export exists for these tools, you can precompute more complex and accurate sound propagation and bake it to an impulse response and then use convolution.

arma 2 and arma 3 simulate it to some degree. arma 2 you can be deafened, and with excessive firing of large calibers, youll be essentially permanently deaf for the duration of the session.
arma 3 used to, i dont remember if its still a thing, but every player had default equipment of ear plugs/ear muffs, and the sound mix was set up so foot steps vs gunfire was extreme. indoors, it was even worse. its the ONLY game i can think of where there was a keybind for earplugs, and i actually used it. riding helicopters or firing 7.62 indoors while having the volume high enough to hear footsteps? it was actually worth switching them on and off.

googling it a bit, this might of just been a server side mod. i pretty much only played KOTH so maybe it was just in that.

No. Any motion you impart on an object will go through the path of least resistance if possible. Opening/closing a bolt has a ton of resistance because you need to press two pieces of metal against each other strongly enough to contain a mini explosion right next to your face. So the gun as a whole will just move/rotate. Maybe if the entire furniture was made out of metal you could do it, as increasing the mass would increase the inertia making it harder to move the whole gun.
Realistically, you'd just prop it against something, even if it's just you leg, two points of contact greately increase the ways in which you can move things
