True, but he didnt earn that 180 degree change. He was uber violent man in GoW3 ascension, and out of nowhere, he became a tame old man with a kid. In fact, that abrupt 180 happened on every level on this franchise; the gameplay changed, there's extensive lore to read now, it has light rpg elements etc. The didnt "ease" the old audience to all that new stuff, and alienated most of them. It reviewed high and sold well, but yes, not as much as 2018. Though I saw in a previous thread that GoW2018 sold more than every mainline entry combined. I also know that it outsold GoW2 or whichever was the previous biggest sales record. Granted that was from a decade ago before 2018 and some of that hype is obviously from people wanting a new entry no matter what, but I'd say the series is as popular as it's ever been.

The tone of the Greek God of War games is weird. On the one hand, they do take themselves very seriously and play it 100% straight. There's a reason why I mentioned the og GoW 1 which doesn't. It's a very competent game even in its narration. Very lean, and tells a surprisingly deep story without bashing you over your head with long cutscenes. I'll give you a point on the sequels but that's not how the franchise began. Kratos was a complex character before le rage man that he became in the third game. The cuck journos who never even played the original games kept parroting how le rage man he always was and how mature he's become in 2018 while I would argue he was most for le mature audiences in the very first og game.

And yes, I've played every GoW at the time of their release and I hate this memory hole narrative that only serves to make the reboot look better. I never played those games I only seen cutscenes and my friend at middle school playing it on PSP. But it always seemed old god of wars were over the top and didn't take themselves that seriously. It was basically killing gods in creative, gory and funny ways. With some action inbeetwen. New ones, i also can't judge gameplay but from what i see they seem they take themselve too seriously.
