Download the patched version, extract it with 7zip and run Replanted.exe. If it goes Not Responding for a while, have faith, it’ll boot eventually. This patched version bypasses the game's protection measure requiring the EA App to be active in the background before it can boot.

Alternatively, you can use the non-patched version, but you'll need the EA App installed and running to get past the splash screen.

Here's the Python version of the EADesktop bypass mod.

It sets up a local TCP server on port 3216 emulating what the connection with EADesktop.exe would look like, which makes the game load up just like the mod.

You can choose whether to use the non-patched version of the leaked beta build with this Python script, or just run the patched version with the mod (recommended).

I don't really know, it's some apparently encrypted data sent between EADesktop.exe and Replanted.exe through their local TCP connection. We didn't bother reverse engineering it because it's a waste of time considering we just want the game to go past the bootstrap screen. However, if anyone figures how to decrypt them those pieces of data, I'll be happy to know.

It's because the original game wasn't on widescreen, so the bushes reduce the amount of time the zombies have to travel. It was on the ps3/xbox version too but it didn't look any better there.
