Why does it get so much hate? I’ve been playing it for a few hours and it’s pretty great

It doesn't by anyone that you'd consider normal. It's a genuinely fun shooter with lots of great moments. Dev's a bit cringe in spots for certain things, but it's whatever.

The problem is that it got popular, people on social media went feral, and the community inevitably turned toxic and shitty. It happens with any popular game. So then other people outside of it all see that and attribute the same feeling of disgust/annoyance to the game itself despite having nothing to do with it. Then, you have people who enjoy falseflagging and digging up specific posts to annoy people who throw a spotlight on the idiocy out there. It's why you see people on /v/ constantly grabbing screenshots from Twitter to basically point at one obscure nobody that said some stupid shit related to a popular game.

It happens to everything that gets big enough, especially indie games since there's a sense of it being this niche little club. Ultrakill is a great game. People just hate the fanbase like with most games like it.

In the game’s defense, the lead devs are both actual fags. It’s not irritating danger hair hipsters trying to win ESG brownie points for being stunning and brave, just a couple of fags making in-jokes with each other. I think that makes it better, at least it’s authentic.

This. No matter how consistently good the game is, the time between content updates is agonizingly slow. We got *two* levels eight months ago, which were just previous layers stuff mashed back together. Layer 7 was almost TWO YEARS ago. I have to re-learn the game every time I jump back into it.

The devs are insufferable faggots on twitter and they added dildo controller support to their game as an attempt to be funny.

Game's great OP and I don't think anyone who actually played it thinks otherwise, but since the fanbase is a bit obnoxious it gets bad rep (see: undertale or pizza tower).

Short answer: No.
Long answer: This game has "combos" in a different sense than DMC or any fighting game. You combine the alt-fires of weapons with the primary-fire modes to do extra damage.

Example: Your shotgun can launch a grenade if you hold right-click. The grenade does twice as much damage if you shoot it mid-air with your pistol, which is enough damage to instantly kill some of the basic enemies. using just the pistol or just the shotgun or just the grenade would not be able to instantly kill anything, but combining them does.

you don't really do fighting game combos where you have to keep an enemy stunned. you just switch weapons a lot. the weapons have special interactions together like electricity working with metal objects, but you don't really need that for normal mode

You can easy hit Ultrakill rank without doing electric ricochets or projectile boosting or otherwise. Parry is also very useful. The most autistic thing about ultrakill is player health being low to incentivize the blood mechanic and the movement tech like slam storage

it's probably the best fps ever in pure combat fun. but it's been in early access for years while the devs redid art design to make it uglier and added buttplugs and shit.

After Fraud hopefully development goes quicker, devs have said the reason development's been so slow is that they're in tech debt hell and trying to clean it up without losing or fucking up any prior functionality
