I feel like this track takes place quite a bit further in the album than the last one. Suddenly, the people are all up for rebellion so long as Megaman joins. There is definitely a Light death track somewhere in the gap, which is maybe what inspires people to want to rebel. It still feels like a big change from the previous 2 albums.

In case you failed to pick up the hint, the band is going to rebrand after the full release of Act III.
Neither protoman nor megaman will appear in Act III, as it will be the people themselves finally deciding to shake off their chains.
Act III is basically a farewell to their old fans, so they can fully focus on their own original stories and characters.

Cool, I was a latecomer so the lyric videos having the context for the ending of act 1 helped a lot.

The new songs are good in a vacuum.
But they don't feel like a concept album/rock opera anymore.
It doesn't feel like there's direct dialogue/exchange of ideas like there'd be in a musical, or cool experiments like changing the soundscape based on the character/plot.
It just feels like a cool album of retrowave-inspired songs.
Act 2 was this too (partially), but it was much more than that.
Despite them embracing this type of sound long ago, this particular Act just doesn't feel much like The Protomen, weirdly enough.
My opinion obviously might change once I hear the whole thing at once, but we've seen plenty fo tracks already and it sort of feels the same (and I am saying this as someone who loves both No Way Out and the whole of The Cover-Up).

It just feels like they wanted to do one more The Cover Up-like thingy, but called it Act 3 just to make everyone happy.

I think every song up til this one has been an establishing song for each character, which is redundant for anyone who already knows the characters. This new track is definitely from further ahead in the album. The plot seems to be Roll is putting out underground broadcasts, Light catches one and seeks her out and they do some kind of plan where Light probably sacrifices himself and it sparks some kind of fight in the people with Roll contacting Megaman.

I think the main issue is that the songs are too short. Compare what's going on here to Act 2.
Act 2 starts with Intermission, and then a 6 minute song that feels deliberately slow, to build the premise. Then we have another "long" song at 5 minutes. The Hounds at 4 which gives Wily's perspective. The State vs Thomas at 4 minutes, which, while it may seem like an odd man out, is actually necessary to keep the story going. It is a song that TELLS a story, same with the next song of Give Us the Rope and the following How the World Fell Under Darkness. Both of them aren't "lyric heavy", especially the latter, and keep using it to build the story, not just in what they're intended to do, but the actual length of the tracks. They're much more in line with sounding like something from a movie because of their length and what transpires in them. You can think of them akin to scenes. Then we finally have the more popular parts of the album, the more 80s inspired rock tracks. It's actually kind of fitting that once the story transitions to be more "digital" and "modern" from Wily, so does the music. Didn't even realize that until writing this. But the point is that there is an intention to the album. If the entire album was just all rock tracks, it would probably not be as fondly talked about. And if we compare that to what's going on in Act 3, it feels much more streamlined but not really giving us a lot of room to breathe and take it all in. Consider The Calm, which I think is much more in line with Act 2 sensibilities. But then we have Trainyard which seems too short, and The Storm as well. I feel like there could've been a better bridging between Buried and Calling Out. It's way too sudden. But maybe once the final album is out that'll change...

Prior to their 2024 Magfest concert, it seems the song does include an intro, but during their most recent outing, which is the Magfest one, there is no intro. I think we can assume this is the first instance of it being the "finalized" version. There's a significant difference to this as well. The intro implies Light has died, but without it, it seems more like Roll is trying to convince a still jaded Mega with Light still alive. It's two entirely different contexts.
